vok of... volume 1 (mp3 files from mp3.com)
this took me three hours to download altogether on just a regular phone connection, so the question naturally arises: was it worth it? well what else would i do? check my email over and over? re-check all the noise sites for updates and news? actually i was watching zombie movies while i was downloading, and anyway i already know i like vok. the tracks are mostly feedback and objects probed with microphone, with sources listed in the titles ['ofinsidemouth(loud)', 'ofmetaltableleg', 'ofvoicecarpetbernadettekidsnextdoorandsingledogbark' etc] and of course pretty harsh for the most part. the sources aren't always evident from the sound, except on the tracks 'ofmetaltableleg', where you can hear some banging; 'ofinsidethemouth(quiet)' which is the sound of someone with a microphone in their mouth, breathing and wet sounds; and the excellent final track 'ofvoicecarpetbernadettekidsnextdoorandsingledogbark' which has some quieter parts where you can actually hear the children next door, against some fiercer parts which sound like distorted screaming. so anyway go download it, it's free after all, and  hopefully you're on a faster connection than me or you've at least got some bad movies to watch.
