Mariah Carey was born on March 27, 1970 to Alfred and Patricia Carey. She lived near Long Island in New York with her two siblings; Morgan her brother and Alison her sister. Alfred being Venezuelan and African with Patricia being Irish, racial discrimination tore apart their marriage when Mariah was 3. Her opra singing mother winged Mariah by being her voice coach. This began Mariah's career, and at age 3, she was already singing. Attending Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, NY she began to sing with her brother Morgan's band. She missed a lot of morning classes because the studio she sang in only allowed them to record in the mornings. Thus the nickname "Mirage". Just days after her high school graduation did Mariah move to New York City with her friend. Only to find herself sleeping on a matress on the floor of a dirty apartment. While in NYC, she earned money doing different types of jobs. Until she was hired as a back-up singer for Brenda K. Starr. THIS would be the first step to Mariah Carey- "Artist of the Decade". Soon after being hired, her demo tape got into the hands of Tommy Mottola of CBS records. Not long after this, would she marry Mottola. This would only come in vain. For Mottola imprisoned and "suffocated" her. After many tribulations, she broke free from her marriage in 1997, and out came a new Mariah. The once high school teenager "Mirage" soon found herself with many number one hits, platinum albums, Grammy awards, and her most recent award, Artist of the Decade.
