From Hub's Pub to LaSalle's Raucus 1st Street
In 1990, at age 16, two musical visionaries created a new sound in music...an alternative to the mainstream crap, though far from modern 'alternative'. Brought up in the streets of LaSalle-Peru, Illinois, the 2 founders used only primitive instrument (drums and kazoo) and raw, powerful lyrics to forge perhaps the greatest debut album of rock history "Mama, I Don't Feel Good". The album flourished in the underground scene, but never caught on with the big labels. Five years passed before DH puts out their long awaited follow-up album "Vocal Hellement" in 1995. Long considered the band's finest work, 'Hellement' never had the commercial success anticipated. It wasn't until later that year that Hear'n'There Records finally started distributing copies of DH's third studio album, "Let it Heave". Four more albums, "Heavers 4 Sale", "Mellon Collie", and "Gen X and the Boys", and a greatest hits came out before an original member learned the bass, and the duo added a guitarist for the ground-breaking Dr. Bun. After a string of live shows, this fledgling version of the band returned to their roots with a once again guitarless album "Sans Juan: Don't Quit Yer Day Job."
Don't Quit Yer Day Job, the Dry Heaver's 8th Studio Album
With a full band of 'musicians', the band was now ready for touring. Doc's Metro, Hub's Pub, 9th Street, Lola's, and Sports Page all came and went until the boys got a new guitarist/singer and hit the big time with a steady gig at world renouned Rephils. This was the peek of their popularity. The band managed to stay fresh by adding new songs, covers, guest musicians and singers...all while giving the crowds what they came for: classics like Mama, Cancer (Tropic of...), and Drive Thru Window. In the end and after thousands of applicants, the group had expanded to 4 members (an additional guitarist/singer) which blew people away with their special brand of entertainment. The band broke up in August 1999 after an emotional finale at Rephils. Members say a reunion is unlikely in the near future, but if enough rumors pile up, they might consider it.
