Country Music

By Erik Ritland

The state of country music today is atrocious.

Have you ever wondered why the likes of LeAnn Rimes and Shania Twain (and a lot of others), so called country stars, are played so much on pop radio stations? Because that’s what they are. Simple pop people. They are not country at all, and that don’t impress me much.

Also, try watching MTV and then GAC or CMT (the country video stations) and you’ll see the same thing: a lotta skin. Everyone with half a brain knows that that’s all that sells music today, including country, which has refrained from this for quite a time. But once the music that it is got totally stale, they sold out. It happens to every great music form. Rock. Blues. Everything, and country is no different. Of course there are a few exceptions, as there is in anything ever.

Lastly, I have to get some facts out to put the damper on that "Oh boy Garth Brooks must be good because he sold out the Target Center seven times" bit. Here’s the thing: tickets to see the middle aged pop/twang goon were only around $20 (except for the special ones-box seats and stuff). That’s it. Kid Rock could sell out the Target Center seven times at that price. Metallica tickets were $50 and they sold out da Centa three times.

So don’t like new country music. If you do, I have so much pity, as I have been listening to truly good music for over a decade. Contact me if you want to get out of the spell that is country, and I’ll convert you to good music in no time.
