What does it meanSergio, Rene, Maria Jose, André, Federica and Daniela

Their name comes from the huge ancient Maya ruins, located at the peninsula of Yucatan by Uxmal and Chichen Itzá, in Mexico. It means the place of masks or gods path. These ruins are huge, and it is believed that it is the center of enormous energy because it has unique plants and animals that are not found anywhere else. Sergio, Rene, Maria José, André, Federica and Daniela found this to be a fascinating place, and that is why they chose it to name their group.

How they started

They began in 1993 practicing at a garage and singing at parties. They liked a popular group called "The Party", so they made a cover which later became "Encontré el Amor". They started out with the help of Luis de Llano, producer of the group Timbiriche and the soap opera "Alcanzar una Estrella". In 1994, they released their first album titled as "Kabah", which included songs like "Al Pasar" and "Encontre el Amor". Since then, they made a great deal of accomplishments, like first place in "Valores Juveniles" 1994, their teen revelation award for 1995 and 1996, taking part of the "Agujetas de Color de Rosa" soap opera, the Acapulco festivals of 95, 96 and 97, telethons, etc.

About "La Calle de las Sirenas"

In 1996, they released their second album
La Calle de las Sirenas (The Street of the Mermaids). They sold over half a million copies, and were awarded with three gold albums and one platinum in the United States and Latin America. Kabah says that this is a very important album because it consolidated them as a group and composers. They composed seven of the songs, including the title of the album. The producer Marco Flores is not only their friend, but a great musician which they say knew exactly what they want, feel and even think.

The first single "
La Calle de las Sirenas" is a song that talks about all those characters we all believed in and played with as kids. We use this song to bring those characters back and go back at the same time to those days ruled by innocence and imagination. The second single "Vive" talks about how to live life in a positive way. About "Esperanto"

On August of 1998, they released their third album
Esperanto (An artificial international language based on European word roots) and sold over 100,000 copies after the first week it was released. As with every album, there are changes because of the need to evolve, and Kabah has been known to stay updated in every aspect. Again they wrote some of the songs, and the album was recorded in New York. For so long a common language was attempted to be created to help the whole world communicate easily, but this was never accomplished and the only Esperanto is music, so Kabah wanted to emphasize on that in this album.

The lyrics are more mature and they talk about things that bother them, based on things that called their attention. One of the songs talks about how man kind is so proud of achievements like going to the moon, or inventing a more powerful bomb, but still doesn't really know to get along with everyone else. There are still differences of race, social status and sexual preferences that people can't accept, but is what bothers the members of Kabah. To see the lyrics of this album click here.

About "XNE"

In the year 2000, they released their fourth album
XNE with a whole new look. This one is about how everyone can be a hero one way or another, not with super powers but with our own virtues. According to Kabah, we all have a virtue of some sort, but few of us actually develop them completely. In this album, each of the members show themselves with a color that represents their own true power or virtue. XNE refers to the energy flow of everything in the universe that eventually creates light. The album comes with some clips. To see the lyrics of this album click here.

About their latest hit "La Vida que Va"

With a new image, they once again show that they stand as one of the most important groups of latin pop music. On June 3rd they celebrated their 10th anniversary.
