About This Site
This site was originally created by a cool girl called smash some time ago. I'm not sure *how* long ago it was. I only got internet access in June of 1999, so the first time I visited the page was in August of that year. I thought it was pretty cool. If you've ever met smash, or if you saw the original version of the page, you know she's got a sense of humor. Back to silverchair stuff
Anyway, around September or so, I began to wonder what my own website would be like if I had one. I had some ideas, but I didn't think I'd ever put them into action. Then late in October, smash got really busy and offered up her page to whoever wanted it. You know who got it :)
What kind of ideas did I have? Well, when Neon Ballroom was released, I just knew silverchair's music. I didn't know any of the little factoids in the info sections. When all of my friends went out of town over the summer, I didn't have too much to do, so after work I sometimes did a little digging in show reviews and articles. silverchair have released some pretty serious songs, but the more I dug up, the more I realized how funny they really are. When I came across something that made me laugh, I'd write it down and email lists of funny facts to my friend Angharad, who was on vacation overseas (one of her responses: "I can't believe Daniel did that with the blowup doll!"). She got a kick out of them.
I just kept coming up with more and more stuff. When Mom first saw the Tomorrow video, I figured other fans could probably relate. (You know how parents are. Mine like disco!)
Then there was that picture of Daniel driving. That expression on his face cracked me up! He looked kind of like one of those hapless kids who accidentally walk in on a buddy getting it on at a party. Which made me question who he'd walk in on at a party, which made me think of Ben (who else?). As time progressed, I thought up captions for more and more photos, which formed the basis for the gallery.
When I took over from smash, I decided to make this site funnier and share the silly side of silverchair with the rest of the world. Sure, they've had problems and all, but this *is* the band whose frontman once said "We're bored, give us something funny to do."
The page was targeted by a hacker on December 29, 1999. I had started rebuilding it, but it was hacked again on January 3 and had the password changed, so I decided to just rebuild the page. I used to have a webring, banner exchange, and a little club called We Are The Youth, but now I'm just focusing on making you all laugh. That was my goal from the start.
