R&B'S Newest Star-VEGA
By Jamilla Collymore
Vega, the brightest star in the northern constellation, has lent not only its name, but also its star qualities to the hottest hew R&B quartet from Detroit. Brothers Eugene "G-Vega" Williams, 23, and Ahsohn "A-Vega" Williams, 22, their cousin, Tennell "T-Vega" Williams, 21, and friend, Jason "J-Vega" Chenevert, 19, came together to create what they call, "Virtual R&B." Their virtual sound compliments their virtual image, courtesy of Dallas Austin; they are often seen dressed as seen above, in motorcycle space suits, and the cover of their debut album, Life On Earth, is a "Jetsons-style" space building set in a bright orange sunset.
Vega is one of the first acts to be released on Austin's new label, Freeworld Entertainment (distributed by Capitol Records). "That means we have priority," says J-Vega. Dallas collaborated with some of the hottest names in the industry for Vega's album including Arnold Hennings, Tim & Bob, Rico Lumpkins, and Chuckie Charles. The result of these collaborations has been an album of "mid-tempo tracks, heartfelt ballads and club grooves-a whole lot of ear candy!" says E-Vega.
Vega will open for TLC's tour starting on January 6. The tour will go to Anaheim, Chicago, Oakland, Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit, New York, and For Lauderdale. Last but not least, the tour comes to Atlanta on January 29th at the Phillips Arena. These ambitious young men also have aspirations for production, acting, modeling. "Conquest; Life on Earth. Learn to live, teach, love, and react."
