Reviews: Slit Wrists & Amber Waves
NOTE
: This information is as close to a professional press kit as Ken wishes to get. Try a glossy magazine for hyper hype, fluffy and puffy PR or general advertising deception. Some publicity is nice. Too much is the death kiss of social acceptance. That explains why Ken Gage says he prefers public disapproval when it comes to his latest solo CD, Slit Wrists & Amber Waves:
"At least I'll know that even if I'm off-track, I'm not moving completely in
the wrong direction. I'm not going to overdo the promotion of this CD. It's
been given birth, and now, like a good reptilian mother, I'm relieved and
moving on."
Ken has released the new CD on his label, Godless Capitalism Recordings, and is currently working on the debut album for his industrial-metal band, Church of the 9 Candles, also known as C9C. Back in 1994, Ken released another solo venture, Psychic Awakenings, which will be re-issued on CD sometime in the Year 2000 -- or, as he would calculate, "Year 35 of our continual Anno Satanas."
THIS IS THE WORD OF THOSE WHO HAVE HEARD:
"Ken's CD is sort of a twilight zone of leisurely anti-pop music. It's a
self-contained world, complete with recurring musical structures and
nightmarish themes."
Jay Riippi, The Switch
"The CD's too literate for its own good. It's more novelty than catchy or
soothing. I just don't think most people will listen to this twice. And in
the meantime, Mr. Gage should consult a mental health professional for his
obvious problems."
Pat Thomas, former C9C keyboardist
"I found the tracks to be haunting...some of them actually put me on edge."
Chris Deckard, XRB
"I like it!"
Kevin I. Slaughter, Den of Iniquity
