hello.
i thought i'd make this page a bit more comprehensable so that people who really care can
read and understand.
name: oj lim (onn-jian lim)
sex: male
born: 22nd april 1982 in england
nationality: malaysian
lives: in malaysia.
okay, so i lived in england for 10 years. and then i
moved to malaysia for reasons i cannot remember. (shame... i probably don't belong
here).
favourite bands/artists: radiohead, rem, blur, suede(benardbutler period only), the
divine comedy, jeff buckley. probably more, but i can't remember.
favourite radiohead songs are probably lurgee, trickster and pearly* (note: two are
b-sides), but it changes from time to time.
other obssessions: writing songs (which i do for fun... it's easy, try). the simpsons: wow. when it first came out, everyone thought it was a fad that would die out... (note the cashing in: the album, the dumb catchphrases), but hey, it just gets better and better. winnie the pooh: isn't he the best? all the winnie the pooh characters are just so dumb... funny... obvious... cool. can't go wrong. even the disney series is pretty good (as long as christopher robin isn't in it).
wanna see mystuff? if you give me a good reason, i will trade.

useless radiohead history (aka, how to make a successful radiohead page): began life in
November 1996. why did i start? at the time, there were about 10
radiohead pages, and only about 3 were any good, and 2 of them were irregularly updated
(tony's page) and/or closing (unofficial/official). the current popular pages were
still in their infancy and pretty bad (lift, radiohead spanish, no alarms). after i
discovered netscape 3.0 gold came with an editor that didn't require knowing html, i
downloaded it, and began working on a page which was initially called 'how did you get
this far? (yet another useless radiohead page)' obviously, that wouldn't cut it.
the title was too long, and no one would link it... so i shortened it to 'another
useless radiohead page'. it was obviously a jibe at how bad all the radiohead pages
were at the time. it didn't help that my actual page wasn't any good either.
the page itself was pretty bad.. i typed up lyrics to all radiohead songs i knew, and
stole some articles from the mailing list, and stole news from the other pages or made it
up myself. :P the pages only claim to fame was a pretty dodgy realaudio file of
lift, a new, unreleased song at the time. still, it was good, because no other
radiohead page had realaudio sounds (except for wasteland, which were unlistenable).
arguably the best part was the links section, in which i basically slagged off
every single radiohead page around (excerpt 'lift: this page would be really bad,
except the realaudio sounds it has saves it, which makes it just bad).
promotion was pretty easy. because there were only about 10 radiohead pages it was
pretty easy to get linked to every other radiohead site and the UBL. after i got 10
free megs of space from toptown, i started making loads of realaudio sounds, and the page
just took off, i remember. it's hard to explain. it seemed really easy.
of course, i boycotted counters, so i can't have really got a lot of hits. i
don't know why i did... but i just didn't like them at the time. many people signed
the guestbook though (including stanley donwood (radiohead art bloke), who praised the
page. which was nice), and that was probably some indication of how i was doing.
the page was pretty minamalist when it started out (one image: the logo), the
reason being i couldn't be bothered with images or image editing. for some reason,
this came sort of a trademark (almost like 'the ideal way a page should be'), and i dunno,
a following sort of came along. when i did bother to put images, people would
complain, when i didn't, others would complain. weird. there was a frames page once
and i got so many emails saying 'frames suck! change it back' that after a while, i
did. i have no idea what sort of following useless radiohead has, but it's pretty
strange. almost cult like. ow. the definite highlight of the page was
select giving the page a good review alongside a bad review of
the popular wasteland page in the December 1997 issue. amazing. almost
instantaneously, things started going good for the page. and now? still going
great. i'm still happy as fuck.
one more thing: don't name your page stupidly. the title of my page has
resulted in hundreds of emails/guestbook entries saying 'your webpage doesn't suck!
you're too pessimestic!' well duh. if i thought my page sucked why would i
bother anymore? now that it's called useless radiohead, no one does that
anymore. which is good. interestingly, no one has commented on uselesshead
either... which i thought was pretty cool too. perhaps i should call it
uselessoralsex... but that would be silly.
*this page isn't meant to be a definitive radiohead page,
nor does it focus in on a particular area. it's just me when i'm bored. really.*
sorry, i don't know html. how embarassing. i tried to learn but i don't have the patience.
sad really.
