Note: Expect links to be broken.   News gets old, and webpages die...

April 6th

'How To Disappear Completely and Never Be Found Again'... yeah, you know the story.  New song played at recent gig.  if anyone bootlegged the show, i'd be interested in getting a copy.  email me.  also, anyone with big ideas too.

i finally got my hands on the No Surprises/Running From Demons EP... and the pearly* remix... disappointingly isn't actually that much different from the original.  let's clear this up, yeah?
first of, i want to shoot the person who said that this version was 'a million times better than the original'.  To the casual listener, you wont notice the difference that much at all.  Here's all the difference i noticed:

... actually 'ends' isn't really the right description.   you can see why the original was faded out.  radiohead obviously had no idea of how to end the song, and it just sort of stops abruptly.  another thing is that thom's voice audably cracks towards the end of the song (you can hear this as the song fades out on the original).  actually, i think that's pretty cool, but thom probably didn't.  all in all, the song is only a couple of bars longer than the version on the PA CD.  which amounts to about 5 seconds.
so don't buy this EP.  it's a rip off, you don't really get any good songs... personally, i'd wait for the Airbag: How Am I Driving? ep, which has a better tracklisting, and may also have Pearly* remix.  plus, it should have lyrics, and should put an end to the debate of 'the correct lyrics to polyethyline'.  which is good.  shame it wont have How I Made My Millions on it... there's a song in dire need of a lyric sheet...

airbag.gif (9344 bytes)

'Airbag: How Am I Driving', the US tour EP will be released on April 21st (a day before my birthday :)  anyone want to get me a birthday present?)  Tracklisting is:  Airbag/Pearly*/Meeting In The Aisle/A Reminder/ Polyethyline [parts 1 & 2]/Melatonin/Palo Alto.

Compare this to the tracklistings of No Surprises/Running From Demons, and the College Karma ep.  they're all the same, aren't they?

April 2nd

Hahaha.
For those listening in yesterday to KROQ yesterday, you must now be aware of the now infamous on air scuffle between thom and the KROQ deejays.
The story:  Pretty standard interview with thom and deejays, but deejays keep making fun of thom's sleepy eye.  Thom plays Fake Plastic Trees, and then later (a big giveaway here) Creep.  Midway through Creep, deejay makes another joke on how thom can look at his guitar and deejay at the same time.  thom stops playing Creep.   Next thing you hear is what appears to be a fight between thom and the deejays, thom at one point shouting "It aint so funny now, is it, mate?!"   Eventually thom gets knocked out, and taken away to hospital.  Pretty exciting stuff huh?

yeah, no shit...  april fools.   and according to reports, a lot of people were fools.  in fact, 'thom' wasn't thom at all... it was... an impersonator (! thom's so famous now, he can have an imporsonator :P), Ralph Garman.  KROQ were apparently flooded with thousands of angry callers... people with tickets to Radiohead's LA gig were also concerned that the gig was to be cancelled.
Sonicnet have pronounced this as 'the best april fools joke of the decade'.  yummy.   radiohead, (who had nothing to do with the stunt), have not commented about it yet, but wait for the LA gig... should be interesting.

other news:

radiohead have debuted a new song at a recent gig: 'Big Ideas (don't get any)'.  How very cool.  It's a reworking of an old song, Nude (or Neut, depending on your inside sources).  And apparently it is very good.  How surprising.

that's enough for now, i'll try to do a proper update on the weekend.  try.

March 24rd

Apologies for the lack of updates recently, but hey, it's spring vacation and who can be arsed? (of course, i'm the only one who maintains this site, so if not me... then no one.  obviously.  sorry, i'm digressing...)

Old news:

In America, 'seven television commercials' will be released on April 7th, with the 'Airbag: how's my driving?' ep.  which is pretty cool.
radiohead will be performing at this year's tibetan freedom concert, just like last year.  expect a 5 song gig.  again.
latest news: radiohead have re-recorded an okc outtake called 'big boots' for "the avengers" soundtrack.  it will be included or not depending on whether or not radiohead like the track or not.  fingers crossed... soundtrack expected to be out in july.

March 7th

Good news for all those people without MTV (or if you are just anti-MTV)... radiohead plan to release a video with all their cool promos in the UK "seven television commercials"... to be precise: High & Dry (US Version), Just, Fake Plastic Trees, Street Spirit (Fade Out), Paranoid Android, Karma Police and No Surprises... release date set for April 27th

The long delayed Drugstore/Thom Yorke collaboration called 'El Presidente' will finally be released on April 20th.

Bjork will not be touring with Radiohead anymore, due to the length of time it would take to change from Bjork's stage setup to Radiohead's. Oh well. I believe Spiritualized will be supporting for those dates instead.

A tour ep will be released for the US tour, called 'Airbag: How's My Driving?' (oh dear). expect the uk b-sides to appear on it.

February 28th

Grammy update: official band release is that radiohead didn't boycott the awards, but were too busy to go. or something like that. and the info about the grammys saying radiohead would bring down the ratings were absolutely false. hmm. i still prefer controversy...

February 27th

The Grammys: Radiohead were edged out by Bob Dylan in Best album. They won 'best alternative...' something award... which is alright i suppose... not that i know what 'alternative'. it looked more like a 'best dance award' thingy, what with the prodigy, chemical brothers, and bjork in the same catigory. Radiohead didn't show up, because apparently they would have 'brought the ratings down'... i suppose letting them win 'best album' would've brought ratings down too...

February 21st

On a totally different note, some interesting comments for my site:

Comments: this is quite possibly the most aggrivating site i've visited so far. the videos don't work, and there's one hell of a lot of pure crap on here. sorry i haven't anything nice to say, but please, if you're going to set up a web site, you may as well make sure everything works properly.

see? this is constructive critisism i love to get. the videos didn't work... so i went out and fixed them. now they do. such is life.

February 9th

Interestingly enough, Radiohead failed to make it onto the 1998 Grammy Nominees album, (even more notably absent was Bob Dylan)... ah well it's probably just as well... i can't really see Paranoid Android alongside Hanson. hmm... an interesting thought...

apologies for the lack of any real updates recently, but i really am a bit too tied up with other things. no big things planned either... just the same old bog standard page... anyway have fun.

February 7th

Sorry for the lack of updates recently, i've been too busy/too lazy... so there you go.

Radiohead won 'Best album' and 'Best 1FM Evening Session' at the NME awards... cool. If anything, these are the awards it's good to win, because it's fans that vote, not magazine journos...

The Radiohead tour video will be called "Meeting People Is Easy" and will be released in the summer, after the tour. The intended OKC video was cancelled ages ago... it was too expensive, and the let down video was fucked up (which is why let down wasn't released as a single), several tens of thousands of pounds down the drain.

speaking of tours, US tourdates have been announced.

Date   City                Venue
3/28   Houston, TX         Theatre at Bayou Place
3/29   Dallas, TX          Music Hall @ Fair Park

4/15   Worcester, MA       Worcester Centrum (w/ Bjork)
4/17   New York, NY        Radio City Music hall (w/ Bjork)

The Japanese tour ended, and was apparently very successful. Radiohead are now entertaining fans in Australasia, lucky them.

There should be more news, but i can't find it. Oh well.

January 23rd

Hallo.

No Surprises, (the most commercial single off OKC) disappointingly charted at only #4 in the UK singles chart. While this isn't too surprising, (released the same week as an oasis single... come on...)i was kinda hoping that it would at least hit top 3... but i guess it's not 'commercial' enough to push All Saints and Bamboo down...
The Select website had a rather nice review for it tho...

Radiohead
No Surprise' (sic) (Parlophone)
When you study philosophy, you inevitably encounter at
some point the question 'What Is Beauty?', which a group
of students can generally not answer as you have to be a
philosopher king and know everything rather than just
gingerly offer suggestions like "Johnny Depp?" However,
now that Radiohead have released the brightest gem on 'OK Computer',
you could simply play 'No Surprises' and watch your tutor fall to their
knees, having realised that all other debate is futile. Quite possibly the
most lovely song of all time, the opening bars alone are capable of
making you cry if hungover enough, and the video (Thom slowly
drowning in a spaceman's helmet) is as brilliant as all their previous
promos. Perfection even before you decipher the lyrics, which just about
finish you off with their pathos ("A heart that's full up like a landfill/ A
job that slowly kills you/ Bruises that won't heal"). Words cannot express
how good this is.

***** ***** ***** (ad nauseum)

That's infinite stars out of 5. (compare oasis' all around the world... which only got a paltry 5/5. ha.)
oh. and i've been told that the vinyl version doesn't come with a free gift. oh well.

DJ Shadow and Thom Yorke's collaboration 'Rabbit In Your Headlights' will be released as a single on Mo' Wax this May.

as you probably already know, radiohead, (along with many other bands), are boycotting the brit awards.
Ed: "Awards are not necessarily something we feel that fond of. The actual reality of awards is that they are thought up by record companies who say: How can we shift more records at this time of year?"

January 17th

Yes, lots of stuff which i should've put up earlier, but didn't have the time to...

Radiohead on Subpop singles club? What an intriguing thought. Go here to find out more.

No Surprises out now, go buy. Lovely b-sides. Vinyl comes with free gift. A must.

Radiohead nominated for Brit Award: Best band/album/producer/single/etc. Radiohead apparently will not be at the awards, instead they'll just be staying in australia (where they will be touring at the time).

Massive Attack to remix OK Computer after releasing their new album. should be interesting to see what happens.

thom's collaboration with DJ Shadow is complete... Ed and Colin have said it to be great.. when it will be out... we'll just have to wait... (as usual).

January 11th

Yes, it appear that there will be a new Radiohead video coming out soon... (finally)... Radiohead have been filming their exploits throughout their tour, and it will be edited down to be premiered on UK TV (lucky) and then hopefully to video... the video is being done by Grant Gee, (he did the No Surprises video), who's been following the band around since the start of the OKC tour in Barcelona... the video should be cool, cos it's more than just a gig, (eg. the astoria video), cos hey, you get to see the band life and all that. should be very interesting...

January 7th

Radiohead have been nominated for two Grammy awards...

"Best alternative album" (for OK Computer of course)... their competition is Bjork (Homogenic), David Bowie (Earthling), The Chemical Brothers (Dig Your Own Hole), and the Prodigy (The Fat of the Land).

"Album of the Year" (really!)... up against Babyface (The Day), Paula Cole (This Fire), Bob Dylan (Time Out Of Mind), and Paul McCartney (Flaming Pie).

Will Radiohead win anything? personally i doubt it. But it's nice to see the Grammy awards recognising some 'real music'... i mean, didn't Celine Dion win Album of the Year last year? hmmm.

In other news... Rolling Stone have finally succumbed to the *radiohead bandwagon*... and Radiohead were voted 'Band Of The Year'. What a surprise.

January 4th

Hello, happy new year.
Anyway, remember Select rated Thom 6th most important person in the world? Well, SelectWeb decided to let its readers decide the 50 most important people... and the results were quite different.
Thom came up in the readers poll as... #2! Really! (#1 was disappointly.. Noel Gallagher, but that was expected). Even more interestingly, Jonny Greenwood was #10... although a reader's comments were a bit suspect, ("He's just sexy isn't he?").. but anyway...

December 27th

No new news, but how about a review of 1997?

December 21st

Ignore the New Zealand dates further down. here are the new ones.

December 13th

Okay, more tour dates. this time, destination: australia

December 11th

the next UK single, 'No Surprises' will be released in the UK on january 12th in the standard 2-CD format.

so there we go... two new songs no one had ever heard before... and hopefully this time round, they wont sound so throwaway as the b-sides on the karma police single... live songs... i've got a problem with them... it's sort of a waste of money in my mind... but since singles in UK are so cheap anyway, i guess it isn't really relevant...

japanese tourdates below, which to be honest i just *borrowed* from the nice fadeout page. go there if you want info about where to get tickets.

i have no idea how popular radiohead are in japan, but if they can play this many dates there... geez, they must be pretty famous over there...

December 8th

Tour Dates for New Zealand annouced:

Australians: don't fret, Radiohead will be touring your part of the world...but hell, i don't care. Hopefully, they'll stop over somewhere like Singapore, so I can go see them...

And below, some info from Hollywood & Vine (aka Capitol)

MTV Presents Radiohead on "Live From The 10 Spot"
Friday, December 19th at 10PM, ET/PT

    NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Dec. 4, 1997--The British
band Radiohead will perform on the next edition of MTV's "Live
From the 10 Spot" television's only live performance show.  MTV
will go live from The Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City for
a 90 minute show on Friday, December 19 at 10 PM (ET).

And finally, the French Lucky single is out...b/w Meeting In The Aisle and Climbing Up The Walls (fila brazilia mix)

25th November

Hey, confirmed by Max "against demons/radiohead-annouce list" Kolombos, the tracklisting from yesterday for the No Surprises/Running From Demons Japanese Tour EP is real. Which is fairly disappointing, but oh well.

And here's a dodgy picture of the cover. (note, the cover doesn't actually look this crappy.  it has the proper font)

24th November

Um... i'm not sure about this one... but an an anonymous emailer sent me a message with details about the Japanese No Surprises tour EP that will be released sometime in December...

Tracklisting is as follows:

  1. No Surprises
  2. Pearly*
  3. Melatonin
  4. Meeting In The Aisle
  5. Bishop's Robes
  6. A Reminder

Again, i'm not sure if this right, so if you can confirm this, hey great. From the looks of it, nothing too special about the package... Bishop's Robes seems a bit out of place... wouldn't it have been cooler if they just packaged all the b-side material from all the OKC b-side material instead? (That is, minus the remixes). Or some live tracks? Or anything to make this worth purchasing on import? Just a thought...

6th November

Radiohead deservedly won the Best Album award for OK Computer at the Q Awards. Well done, etc. Although I will say this: If oasis had won the award, i would have really been screaming. people who even voted for them, shoot themselves. best act in the world today? i'll say 'act', they're not real at all, are they? Go to the Q website for the full lowdown on the awards.

All those people who pushed Aqua's Barbie girl to the top of the charts, and gave it excessive radioplay, shoot yourselves too. you don't deserve to live. really.

on a positive, but totally un-radiohead related point, (well, okay, ed o'brien supports them), Man Utd are almost definitely into the European Champion's league quarter finals, thanks to a hattrick from the ever-unpredictable andy cole (well, surprised me)... so unless Juventus decide to totally stuff them, well... congrats and all...

2nd November

In the December issue of Select, Thom Yorke was voted 6th most important person in the world. Hmm. Well, i really had to question this. First of all, Beck is #1 ("Who?" said my parents) also you get people who you've probably never heard of outside UK, (Zoe Ball, Vic Reeves), and then to finish it off, you get people you've never head of anyway, (Sophie Dahl)...

Also, a summer poll taken by Virgin Megastores in England for the top 100 albums, well, The Bends came up at #3. OKC was at #16. Again, it all seems a bit dubious really. First, we have oasis at #1. We have shite like Kula Shaker and Ocean Colour Scene riding higher than artists who definitely deserve to be rated higher than them...oh well, a poll is a poll then. although i'd like to see if half of the bands listed show up in a poll taken in ten years time...

Well, i've had some responses to the bit of news about the '4th l.p.' below. one guy, Floyd Owen, had this to say:

You have made a good point about Radioheads next album being made up of songs that were OK Computer rejects.  Although, I believe that you are taking things out of context.  Nobody stated that songs like True LoveWaits, Man-o-war and lift were not included on OKC because they were not good. They have always known that these songs were great but the OKC songs just seemed to be recordable. By calling these songs "Reject" songs, you are also saying that songs
that were put on Pablo Honey, The Bends and OK Computer, were made upmostly of reject songs.  Just thought I would throw in my two cents. While you did make some good point, you can not argue that the next predicted track listing is made up of "incredible" songs.

And hey, the guy has made a valid comment. And i'd argue, except my fingers are tired. so moving on...someone called Rita had some more to say about the new album...

I can assure you that it is not true. Some of my friends and I were talking with Phil this last Friday (doing an interview for a magazine here in Spain), and when we asked him about this rumour, he absolutely denied it (he was really surprised about it !!!).

Ah, so what is there to do? Trust no one. And here, straight out of the mouth of the Max Kolombos, Mr Radiohead-Announce List...
Latest news is of a Lift EP which will come out around spring time, preceeding the new album. The Lift EP will probably clear out all the old songs like Man-O-War (although the band are thinking of this song as a single too) and Motion Picture Soundtrack. Both 'I Promise' and 'True Love Waits' look like possible candidates for the No Surprises single B-sides -out in January 1998.
The proposed Japanese No Surprises Tour EP has been put on hold, probably
until January 1998 to coincide with the tour and the UK release of the single.

Again, the sources of these strange rumours and gossip? Who knows, but lets travel into the past...anyone remember when lift was supposed to be the first single of the 3rd lp? Anyone remember the early rumoured tracklistings for the 3rd album. Oh dear indeed...

20th October

"The band plan to release another album in Spring or Summer of next year. It is nearly finished, and will contain the as yet unreleased tracks like Motion Picture Soundtrack, Lift, Man-O-War, True Love Waits, I Promise and Nude, all of which the band feel are too good to put as b-sides."

This is a joke right? What message are radiohead trying to send here? I'm only getting negative vibes out of this. what i'm seeing is that radiohead's next album will consist of OK Computer rejects, songs that couldn't even make it on that album. Not only that, what do they mean 'too good' to put as b-sides? Is this a not-too-subtle hint that radiohead are planning to fill their future b-sides with crap songs? What? I find it all too worrying that i've already heard almost half of radiohead's 4th album before the 3rd one is released...sometimes i question the validity of these announce-list sources...

on a lighter note, what do people think of that new spice girls single, spice up your life? i thought it was the biggest load of shite when i first heard it...and then the catchyness set it. How do they manage to make that unlistenable rubbish so catchy? it's scary really...i can't get that song out of my head...oh what the hell, all together now: "...everybody in the world spiceupyourlife, every boy and every girl, spiceupyourlife, shake it to the left...etc.."

August 5th

Thom to record with DJ Shadow...

Radiohead to appear on the David Letterman show, August 25th.

Not much else. i forget anyway.

June 16th

(What?  oh yes, i actually updated the news page)

OK Computer is out, so buy it now!!! Make it Radiohead's first #1 album (which it surely deserves, how could the bends not hit the top?)

Karma Police is set to be released in UK on August 12th.

June 3rd

Paranoid Android charts in the UK at #3, making it Radiohead's highest charting song to date, (previously, the highest was #5 for Street Spirit). If we're lucky, (and enough of you lazy sods buy it), PA might just hit #1, (or failing that, #2). So go buy it if you haven't. NOW.

The Sonicnet chat has been cancelled, (well, well).  I guess after this mishap of the first chat, radiohead aren't exactly the most enthusiatic about doing it again.  For all of you who don't know why all subsequent radiohead web chats were cancelled, have a look at the official page.

Radiohead played a superb set at the 'Later...' show, playing No Surprises, Airbag, and Paranoid Android. Sound clips are available on the page "against demons", which i believe is at http://www.kolombos.demon.co.uk/radiohead/ but i might be wrong...

May 29th

Yeah, i should really update this more often, but can i really be bothered? (no, not really.)

Paranoid Android came out this week, i encourage you muchly to by it...benifits are: you get yummo b-sides; if enough of you buy it, radiohead go into the charts; radiohead get some money. whoop.

I should have said this a while back, but what the hell: join the radiohead backweb thingy. it's quite funny actually...today i was surprised with a sound sample of Paranoid andriod, accompanied with something that appeared to be moving pictures, featuring radiohead ART and thom doodles!! YES! Can be found here: http://www.hob.com/radiohead/

Radiohead will be chatting on Sonicnet on June 4th, 7:00pm Eastern Standard Time, (nope, i have no idea what time that is either)...

The Radiohead chat on HOB has been postponed until sometime in June...

May 24th

Ok Computer is OUT!...in Japan, that is... Lucky buggers...available on the EMI-Toshiba label... Mixed reactions to the Paranoid Android video, mostly negative...but that's alright.

May 15th

The video for Paranoid Android will be debut on MTV on the 20th May in Europe, and 25th of May in the US. It's an animated-type thing, so that should be somewhat interesting...

Radiohead are planning to make a cool OK Computer video, featuring all the songs from the album.

May 7th

On May 31st, Radiohead will appear on the Jools Holland show...great!  Radiohead were on his show back in 1995, and played The Bends, and High & Dry, as well as making some weird noises at the beginning jam. This promises to be interesting, because the previous show was undeniably entertaining...

April 12th

KTS, probably the biggest and most well known bootleg company in the world, is coming to an end. The only bootleggers that were ever *legal* are, for unnamed reasons, shutting down. However, until the end of April, you can still order goods from them. They have three fabulous Radiohead boots out, 'Creepshow', 'The Best Thing That You Ever Had', and the very recent 'Planet Acoustic'. All are A+ quality, and being Radiohead, is well worth a look. These boots, plus more can be found on the KTS webpage. So check it out, and hurry, before KTS is gone forever...I don't support bootleg companies, but KTS provide quality CDs, which is why i put this here...

April 6th

The new single will be Paranoid Android, and will be out May 26th! Expect yummy b-sides too.

EXIT SONG WILL NOT BE ON ROMEO AND JULIET 2!!!!!!! See the Romeo and Juliet webpage for a tracklisting of the soundtrack...But you'd never know...Exit Song (For A Film) may be a secret bonus track on the soundtrack, we'll have to wait and see...of course, you can buy the video just for it.

Pre-date:

Radiohead appear likely to perform at this year's Glastonbury in late June. A single should coincide with the performance, and it's likely to be Paranoid Android...which will be released next month or so, plus b-sides...also, after many delays, the second Romeo and Juilet will be released on April 8th, containing Radiohead's excellent Exit Song (for a film)... All in all, we could be looking at a possible 6 new songs!!! (Paranoid Android, probably with 2 parts, each with two b-sides, and Exit Song). You're spoiling us shurely Radiohead!

Radiohead are going to contribute to the soundtrack to the film "Velvet goldmine", (producer: Michael Stipe), a film about the glam rock scene starring superstar Ewan MacGregor of Trainspotting fame. Every artist on the soundtrack were asked to contribute a song with a glam rock feel to it, so be prepared for extremely different radiohead.  The closest radiohead have done to glam rock is maquiladora, and that is still far off from it...

Radiohead are supposedly going to collaborate together on a song with Massive Attack.

Jonny is supposedly working together with Bryan Ferry.

Thom Yorke is apparently collaborating with Drugstore.

'how can you be sure' appears on the soundtrack to the movie 'Nowhere'.

The Nellee Hooper remix of Talk Show Host appears on the first R& J soundtrack.

<go back>
