Even When Life Is Cruel (God Is So Good)
V1
Standing by the graveside
A young mother weeps
A soldier in blue has been laid low
Though the cause was just
She's finding it hard to trust
How they'll live from now on, she doesn't know
V2
Walking back to the homestead
She meets a dear old friend
Who lost her love many years before
She says, "I've been where you are,
I wouldn't have gone very far,
If it were not for the goodness of the Lord --
Chorus
"Even when life is cruel, when it seems so unfair,
Even when you don't see Him, it doesn't mean God's not there
You can bring Him your burdens, you can cast on Him your ev'ry care --
Even when life is cruel, God is so good."
V3
A hundred years later
On a tidy farm outside of town
A grandfather bows his head in prayer.
It's near the end of the month
He wonders, "Will there be enough?"
But he will not give in to despair.
V4
A door knock, the neighbor
Comes to call, bringing him
A letter that came from far away
Through his tears of joy
He sees a gift from his only boy
And remembers what his Grandma used to say --
Chorus
"Even when life is cruel, when it seems so unfair,
Even when you don't see Him, it doesn't mean God's not there
You can bring Him your burdens, you can cast on Him your ev'ry care --
Even when life is cruel, God is so good."
