Wounds of a Friend
Wounds of a Friend
A Song from the Proverbs
MIDI Link: Wounds of a Friend

The title to this song was almost "Sometimes Your Friend's Gotta Whup You Upside the Head with a 2x4." But that was too long, it didn't rhyme, and perhaps wasn't quite subtle enough. Even so, the message is the same. It isn't pleasant being told you are out of line, but if you aren't told, you may end up messing up a piece of your life. In addition, you break your heart and the hearts of those nearest to you. So never hold back; never forget that kindness and truth go hand in hand; and never fail to graciously accept the warnings that brothers and sisters offer in love.

True love is tough love,
It is tender and strong
You had enough love
To say I was wrong
The sting of reproof is far better
Than the soothing reassurance of liars
At the point of my need,
The truth is what my heart requires.

Feeling neglected
While my world's at its end
Feelings, protected
By well-meaning friends
True friends won't withhold words of wisdom
From a wandering heart in the night,
At the point of my need,
They show me the way that is right.

(Chorus)
Faithful are the wounds of a friend,
Truth and kindness can be so revealing
And the truth is a seed,
Growing into apples of gold...
Faithful are the wounds of a friend,
Though at first they cause pain, they bring healing.
At the point of my need,
Faithful are the wounds of a friend.

Hearts may be broken
By the force of a fall
Warnings unspoken
Are no help at all
Words of wisdom spoken in season
Bring a healing balm to the soul.
At the point of my need,
The wounds of a friend make me whole.

(Chorus)
Faithful are the wounds of a friend
Truth and kindness can be so revealing
And the truth is a seed,
Growing into apples of gold...
Faithful are the wounds of a friend,
Though at first they cause pain, they bring healing.
At the point of my need,
Faithful are the wounds of a friend.
