This song began to take shape when I heard of the loss of missionary Graham Staines and his two young sons in India.
It Was Worth It All
Jesus left His heavenly throne
Clothed Himself with flesh, and blood, and bone
Knowing all too well the pain He had to face
Some refused to understand
No, they would not turn and trust the Lamb
Though willingly He came to take their place.
Led away to die
To the shameful crucifixion
He was innocent, yet treated as condemned
On a cross raised high,
He prayed, "Father, forgive them;"
As He offered His life, He loved them to the end.
Far from family and home
With my two young children, not yet grown
We had come to share His gift with those in need
Still they would not understand
They refused to turn and trust the Lamb
And in anger, carried out their cruel deed.
As the flames rose high
Still we prayed for their salvation
Though they sought to still the passion in our hearts,
Then we raised our eyes,
And we saw our Saviour standing
As He welcomed us home who loved us from the start!
Chorus:
It was worth it all...worth every bit of sacrifice,
Just to know that whether by death or life,
Jesus Christ is glorified,
It was worth it all...worth every penny of the price
And all the martyrs who have gone before
Will rise in chorus like the ocean's roar,
Singing to the Lamb, "Yes, it was worth it all!"
(repeat chorus twice, fading on 2nd repeat)
