Gold Coast band SunK LoTo formally known as MeSSiaH formed back in 1997 with band members Jason Brown, Dane Brown, Luke McDonald and some other bass player (unknown name).
MeSSiaH’s first ever gig was the High School Rock heats in 1997 which they were selected to go into the semi finals then into the grand final where they came first place.
After the High School Rock finals 97 MeSSiaH decided to keep their band as a 3 piece with only Jason Brown (vocals), Dane Brown (Drums) and Luke McDonald (guitar). For the rest of 97 they kept as a 3 piece band but soon realised they needed another member (Bass Player) to keep it together.
At the start of 98 Sean Van Gennip (Bass) joined MeSSiaH and has been with them since. He formed the band after he saw MeSSiaH play at the Gold Coast then noticed that he went to the same school as Luke. After speaking to Luke about how he saw his band play, Luke said that they were looking for a bass player and invited Sean to jam with them, after that MeSSiaH said he was in and this is where it all starts.
June 98 MeSSiaH played at the High School Rock finals as the guest band where they drew a lot of attention from the crowd and some record company's eg: Sony. During 98 MeSSiaH played a couple of gigs and even got to play in surfers paradise for the 1998 schoolies carnival.1999 came around fast and what a year it has been for MeSSiaH. January they played on the local stage up the East Coast of Australia for the VANS WARPED TOUR, touring with acts such as Pennywise, Unwritten Law, Less Than Jake and The Deftones. After the Vans Warped Tour Messiah scored the support act for American band The Deftones in Brisbane which I don’t think they will forget. In March they played in Brisbane for the "Disorientation" festival and in April they played at the Gold Coast with local outfit "One Eyed Milkmen".
Sony Music had an eye on MeSSiaH ever since they won the 1997 High School Rock final and in may they finally got signed over to Sony music.
July 99 they once again played as the guest band at the High School Rock finals where they announced the new name for the band, which now is "SunK LoTo". They were forced to change their name, as there was already a techno band from London who was already registered under the name "MessiaH".
September/ October SunK LoTo toured around Australia with American Hardcore/ Punk band "Suicidal Tendencies", they toured places such as Perth, Sydney, Gold Coast and Melbourne.
SunK LoTo have already picked up a name over Australia in just a short period of time. With Jason Brown (16), Luke McDonald (16), Dane Brown (14) and Sean Van Gennip (18) already having an EP coming out on the 29th of November by the name of "Society Anxiety" it shows that these boys have a bright future ahead of them.
