Getting Set

Taxiride are four amazingly talented guys from Melbourne, Australia. Jason Singh, Tim Watson (better known as Watto), Tim Wild, and Dan Hall.

Taxiride was formed just over four years ago. It all began when the two Tims met each other. As they became better aquainted, they stumbled across a talented guy by the name of Jason. He auditioned for them, singing "Gimme Me One Reason" by Tracey Chapman in 7 keys which he pulled off in flying colours and completely trouble-free. Then just when they thought their band was complete and ready to go, Tim Wild accidently (and luckily!) discovered Dan busking at their local markets. He thought only to call him back to their studio and audition him for the band. Jason recalls at the TR gig at Movie World: "He came to the studio with a whole heap of booze for us all. So we just had to let him in!"

"Where did they get their name?" you may ask. Well this is the answer. The guys had a friend who used to play their early demo tape in his cab to his passengers and get their opinions. But they weren't always called Taxiride. This hot quatro was formerly known as Taxi.

Riding the Rocketship to New Heights!

The rapid success of the four guys just came from nowhere. From out of the blue came their smashing debut single "Get Set" which deservedly became the theme song for the American movie "Election" which starred Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon. Naturally, they made it big in the States before any Australian music fans or critics had even heard of them. Then when single number 2 "Everywhere You Go" was released, it proved to be just as popular as its former successor.

The guys were nominated for one award at last year ARIAs, which was Best Song of the Year for "Get Set". Of course, they went on to win and it is also claimed that "Get Set" and "Everywhere You Go" have been two of the most played songs on Australian Radio in 1999! This is supported by records kept of the most requested songs on creditable stations such as 2Day FM on the Aus Stereo Network.
