Chapter Nine

(The next day)

Rachel shut her car door and heaed inside. She set down her keys and purse. She saw Nikki and Lance eagerly waiting on the couch. Their little "scheme" became all too clear. Rachel decided to play into a little "scheme" of her own.

"How did it go?" Lance asked as casually as he could manage.

Rachel put on her best fake frown, "Well, it turns out there are tow Olive Gardens in this area. I just happened to go to the wrong one. But as the night unfolded this lovely and devestatingly handsome guy happened to show up alone. And I took advantage of the situation and gave him my number!" Rachel delighted as she watched both of their mouths drop open.

"B-but, what about the uhhh guy that was waiting for you? You just stood him up!" Lance asked shocked.

"Yup I guess so. Tell him I'm sorry Lance!" Rachel smiled.

"But Rachel! This was an important date! For all you know that date could have been your soul mate!" Nikki argued.

"Justin? My soul mate? Hmmmmm," Rachel pretened to think as she but back her smile.

"You did go!" Nikki cheered.

"How was it?" Lance asked, "Just because I'm a guy doesn't mean I won't grill you for details!"

Rachel grinned as she sat down next to both of them, "It was really nice. We had a nice platonic time."

"Platonic?" Nikki asked with obvious dissappointment in her voice.

Rachel nodded, "We've decided to be friends again, or at least work on it. And we caught up on old times and all sorts of fun stuff. And yeah that's it!"

Lance shrugged, "Not exactly being lovebirds again yet but it's a start!"

Rachel rolled her eyes to Nikki, "Whatever Lance!" She turned back to Lance, "I can't believe you set this up!"

Lance starting grinning ear to ear, "Just something this badass couple cooked up!" He looked at Nikki who laughed.

"Badass?" Rachel cocked an eyebrow, "Yeah watever! Mister Babytalking stud! Uh huh!" All three laughed.

Rachel yawned, "Well, it's time for Lauren to go to bed! Bye bye!" Rachel said getting up.

"Night babe!" Nikki smiled.

"Goonight Rachel!" Lance added.

"Night guys! And thanks for tonight!"

Rachel's only day of sleeping in was interupted by the loud and annoying ringing of the phone. She groaned and rolled over. Stuffing the pillow over her head, she tried to ignore it. She waited for several more rings and noticed none one else in the house was going to pick it up. Lance and Nikki must be taking care of James. Reluctantly she rolled over and picked up the phone.

"Hello?" she mumbled.

"Rach? Sorry were you sleeping Princess?" Justin asked softly.

"Uh huh," Rachel moaned.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" Justin said sincerely, "I'll call back later!"

"Naww, I'm up now. What's up?" Rachel asked.

Justin thought for a moment. 'What was his excuse anyway? This was a bad idea from the beginning. He knew this whole thinking on his feet wouldn't work'.

"How about we go out for breakfast? I can come pick you up?" Justin asked.

'As long as you don't come in,' she thought.

"Umm can I meet you there?" Rachel asked.

"Yeah sure. How about Denny's in thirty minutes!" Justin offered.

"Okay! Bye!" Rachel said.

"Bye! Cya!" Justin said.
