Chapter 16: Nothing is that simple

Nick continued to look at Cate blankly as she admired the view with such a look of happiness. She was happy, the happiest she had ever been.

She really did love him but didn't realize she had just said that aloud.

"Cate, did you just say you loved me?" He questioned confused. The realization finally dawned on her. She became immediately worried about his reactions and began to chastise herself for saying that, she couldn't lose him, not now. But she couldn't lie either. She nodded her head slowly embracing the melancholy thoughts already absorbed in her head. He walked up to her, still shocked but in awe that she was so sure already. He liked her a lot, he cared a lot but love? And so soon?

He soon just hugged her. They comforted each other's fears that way. The problem wasn't solved because well nothing is that simple but it was on its way. They didn't break up, fight, or even thought bad things about each other. All that really mattered was they still had each other and the hope of their future together.

Amy got half way home and decided to go back and talk to Kevin about the poem. When she got back to the hotel she found Kevin in the lobby about to go and look for her.

"Kevin, can we talk?" Amy asked. She was still swept away by the letter, she obviously wasn't supposed to see. He nodded and they went to his truck that was in the nearby parking lot.

Lissa knocked on AJ's door and when he opened the door she ran right into his arms.

"What's up babe?" AJ asked still holding her in his arms.

She shrugged, losing her nerve as the seconds passed.

AJ knew all about the Jeff incident. But he wasn't sure how to handle everything. He was hoping she would not leave him. He hated rejection. Everyone does, but it hurt him a little more. He just wished for acceptance, love, and fun all intertwined into one. So far with Lissa, it had been great and showed signs of all three. He was not about to lose all of that just because her best friend fell in love. But did he have that much control. He couldn't tell her who to choose and he knew he would not make her stay as much it would break his heart to see her leave. He just could not let that happen. It was that simple.

Lissa felt torn. Torn inside, Torn between two great guys, torn between her emotions. She had definitive attraction with AJ. Jeff was her best friend though. Relationship wise she didn't know how he would hold up but could she really see with AJ around. Could she get rid of him though?

NO, she concluded. She could not give him up either. It was selfish and wrong but as good as that decision she made earlier was, it now was the truthful trap that she was stuck in. She looked up at AJ. Both were done with their negative thoughts and their eyes expressed the pain and sorrow that they could only truly express through their deep gaze. He instantly knew her problem and she knew his too. The connection obvious. The sorrow worsening with the newest revelation.

"You want to listen to anything in particular?" Kevin asked as he looked through various CDs.

"Kevin, I don't care. Just put on a radio station." She commented, wanting to get on with the conversation. He quickly put on a classical station. (EN: Kevin roks!)

"So what did you want to talk about?" He asked. Hoping it was about them becoming 'more than friends' and densely not realizing she had read the poem.

"Well Kevin, This makes me seem like a stalker of some kind." She began feeling nervous. He started to get that way too. 'What the hell is she getting at?' He kept asking himself.

"See I read the poem you had on your table." She shared. He was horrified before she finished her sentence. He was not that embarrassed, it was just the fact, that he didn't want her to leave. He didn't want to scare her away.

"Kevin are you all right?" She asked noticing his sudden paleness. He nodded. He couldn't lose her. He couldn't explain why but somehow he needed her.

"Tell me what's wrong!" She demanded growing more worried by the second. He was on the verge of tears and couldn't really explain anything.

"Don't leave me." He pleaded. She began to understand and quickly hugged him, holding onto him as if for dear life.

"Kevin, I would never leave you." She said barely understanding herself what in the hell was happening.

As Brian and Emily parted, a smile was found on both there lips.

"What do you say I take you to my church tomorrow?" Brian offered. (En: I want to go to church with Brian!!!)

"I would be honored." She replied.

"That's wonderful, I was afraid you were going be atheist or something." He commented.

"Nope, I am a Christian." She shared smiling at his innocence.

"I better go." He concluded. She laughed.

"Hey Brian, one more thing." She requested before pulling him in for another kiss. Their passion surprised him and stalled his leaving for about another 10 minutes. Then Lil' Tyke broke the mood by barking at Lissa's kitty. (EN: GRRRRR!)

"Bye Em" Brian said.

"Buh-bye Bri and Tyke" she replied waving. Once they were out of the house. She dropped to the couch smiling and clutching a pillow to control her happiness.
