Chapter 26: Fighting

“Kevin, this was perfect.” AJ said as they walked on a little side walk.

“I know, isn’t it peaceful?” Kevin asked. This was one of the quieter non tourist, piers.

“How did you find it?” AJ asked curiously.

“This was where Kristin and I broke up.” Kevin shared.

“OH dude, I am sorry man. I didn’t mean to bring up anything unpleasant.” AJ apologized.

“It’s okay, it’s also where I got over her.” Kevin explained.

Kevin and AJ kept walking so engrossed in conversation they did not notice the two ladies sitting up on the docks ahead of them. And coincidently head straight for them.

“Amy, oh my, what are you going to do?” Lissa asked her distraught friend.

“I don’t know. I don’t know what love is. How am I supposed to know if I love him or not?” Amy asked utterly confused at this point.

“Well I am not so sure I know what love is either, but it’s something you feel, you know, no other words will describe it so you use the word love.” Lissa explained.

“No offense but that sounds a little idiotic.” Amy said giggiling.

“Yeah it does, but I like it.” Lissa said smiling brightly.

“Me too.” Amy agreed.

“Hot damn! Amers do not look behind you.” Lissa instructed. Only about 15 feet away, still in intense discussion where Kevin and AJ. “

What? Why?” Amy panicked.

“Kevin and AJ are walking towards us.” Lissa shared.

“Do you think they followed us?” Amy asked.

“I doubt it. Fate just decided it hasn’t been cruel enough with us lately.” Lissa said.

“Hey AJ, doesn’t that look like Lissa?” Kevin asked suddenly becoming aware the head not facing them was Amy’s.

“HOLY SHIT!” AJ exclaimed.

“Calm down.” Kevin instructed.

“OH hell no!” AJ defied and marched up to where the girls were sitting.

Lissa and Amy noticed AJ marching up to them angrily. They both stood up, as Kevin caught up with AJ with a ‘I’m sorry, I tried’ look upon his face.

“Hello AJ.” Lissa greeted with twinges of guilt going everywhere as she looked at his obviously hurt face.

“Why? Just tell me why.” He requested barely above a whisper.

“Did we already discuss this?” She asked.

“Tell me why.” He asked a little more firmly. (EN: Ain’t nothing but a heart ache, TELL me why? Ain’t nothing but a mistake…)

“He loves me, and I know I love him. I can trust him and I can trust myself with him.” she explained softly.

“I love you too Lissa.” AJ shared honestly.

“I’m sorry but I can’t believe you can fall into love that easily. It’s something that grows AJ.” Lissa explained.

“So be it. But I’ll be waiting. I won’t ever stop waiting.” AJ said before walking away leaving the three baffled.

“What did I do?” Lissa asked as she began to cry.

“It’ll be okay sweets, you did the right thing. I’ll stand beside you.” Amy comforted her hurt friend. Kevin shot Amers a look with pleading eyes but when she diverted her attention to Lissa, she didn’t notice and Kevin walked away as equally hurt as AJ.

“We’ll be fine, but let’s go home.” Amy suggested Lissa nodded as she regained control of her tears.

“Cate, you hungry?” Nick asked as he beat her for the tenth time.

“Yeah. I could use some food in my tummy.” She replied smiling sweetly. “

Let’s go get some then!” Nick exclaimed.

“What about Em and Brian?” Cate asked.

“Yeah, let’s pick up some food for them.” Nick agreed and they headed out to Taco Bell.

“So what does Em like?” Nick asked.

“Supreme Chicken Chalupas, same as me.” Cate said matter-of-factly.

“Funny. Hmm…wonder what Rok would want.” Nick thought.

“He’s your best friend and you don’t know?” Cate asked surprised.

“I do too! He likes….gorditas!” Nick replied for the sake of argument. To prove his point he ordered Brian gorditas. Cate giggled and Nick ordered for them. The drive thru guy didn’t even look twice after he got the money and delivered the food 7 minutes

later.

“What a slow place!” Nick angrily excliamed.

“Someone isn’t very patient.” Cate commented laughing at him. He smiled at her. She was so silly and happy, it was amazing.

They soon arrived home with the food and were going to eat, when Brian came down.

“Hey get me anything?” He asked.

“Yeah, we got you Gorditas. Your favorite.” Nick replied handing them and a mexi nugget to Brian. “

Cool but Nick, they aren’t my fave.” Brian exclaimed as Cate laughed her ass off at Nick. They sat down and began to eat. Just the three of them.

“So, how is Em?” Cate asked worried.

“She’s asleep.” Brian explained.

“Good.” Cate replied. The mood was dimmed a bit and they finished eating in silence.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Once Brian left Emily she hopped out of bed. She had been waiting until he left, as she undoubtably knew he would. ‘It’s not his fault’ she told herself. She was still wearing her clothes from the day, a pair of jeans and a tank top. She quickly also threw on a light jacket and gazed out her window for anybody. Satisfying herself, she looked back just once into her dark room. The shadows playing off in her wall reminded her of his presence.

Dave had never left.

Now she understood. But now she would have to leave, to protect her friends. Or he would make her pay one by one. Brian, would be the first…she was certain and she couldn’t allow him to die. It was being nice. She convinced herself he didn’t really mean that much to her anyway, but wasn’t beleiving the lie. She wanted him, she wanted to love him, but that meant to go.

She climbed out of her window slowly and as expertly as she could but being as she only did it once a year, the fourth of July she wasn’t that good. She made it out safely. But walking to the nearby rail of the porch was a different story. She made it that far still safe. She walked on the thin porch railing to get near the stairs she would soon walk down. That was when Amers and Lissa drove up. They saw her shadow and wondered who the hell it was, and what the hell it was doing. They parked in front of the garage. Emily tried to hide, but it was no use, she had to run. In her attempt to jump off the railing, she fell. Amy and Lissa walked out of the car and towards where they heard wimpering.

Emily managed to get up while dragging the leg she had to have broken. But never much for dealing with pain, she passed out on the edge of the yard with Amy and Lissa right behind her.

“Holy Shit what is she trying to do?” Amy asked scared of her best friend. Lissa’s tears had reformed.

“I don’t know but maybe we should put her in some care.” Lissa suggested hating the idea, but not knowing what else to do.

Amers ran in and got the others. All filled with the guilt they might have lead her to her “escape”. An ambalance pulled up, (they called one) and Brian rode with her. Amy told him what Lissa thought. They also called Em’s mom but she couldn’t make it down for another two days because of storms in Denver.
