Chapter 2: Getting the hook up

“I had a great time.” Jess commented as Nick walked her out to her car.
“They always say, third time’s a charm.” Nick voiced. Adding the make you melt smile.
“You want to meet somewhere tonight?” She asked.
“Yeah, follow me home.” He decided.
“See ya there.” Jess said smiling. Her brown hair began to whirl in the wind. She stepped into her Saturn and followed Nick to his house. Both with different intentions in mind.

“Home Sweet Home.” Nick commented as he opened her door.
“Thank you.” She replied, stepping out. He lead her to the living room where she sat on one of his beige couches.
“So Nick, have you ever been in love?” She asked innocently.
His eyes immediately expressed pain and his face turned into a grimace. “No.” He uttered.
“It seems to me you have.” She replied wanting to get him to share.
“I Haven’t OKAY? Maybe you should go.” He said getting angry. His temper growing by the fear in her eyes.
She looked away for a second the turned and looked right at him.
“If you don’t stop looking at me like that, I’ll give you something to be scared of!” He shouted. She ran out of the door and his head fell to his hands.
Why did every girl care so much about his past? It meant nothing.
But if it really meant nothing then why did he always lose his temper over it. He decided to just sleep it off. He had to go to his second job tomorrow.

Em called Nick at 9am the next morning.
“Hello.” He groggily uttered.
“You taking me to the island?” She asked.
“SHIT! Yeah…meet me at the harbor.” He instructed. He quickly dressed and showered and headed there himself.

“So Nick, how’d your date go with Jess?” Em asked as they sailed away to head to Blue Lagoon Island where they both were scuba diver instructors.
“Not well.” He replied sorrowfully.
“Oh geez. You want me to hook you up again? I got a friend who’s really cute, silly, and needs to get out.” Em shared.
“Sure. It’s not like I can’t get girls on my own.” He stated.
“Yeah, but Nick my friends won’t use you.” She explained. He nodded.
“You know, it’ll all be okay. Just think of your upcoming 21st birthday.” She shared.
“Okay, It’s kind of scary to be instructing scuba divers in January.” He commented.
“The hurricane meter had nothing coming towards the Bahamas, we’re safe.” Em concluded.
“Ready for a fun filled day at work?” He asked. She giggled. They always went to the island a day before since it took so long. It was basically a day at sea.
“Got any snacks?” She asked.
“Not that you can eat!” Nick exclaimed.
“Why not?” Em asked.
“It doesn’t follow your diet.” He shared, giving her a sympathetic glance as he drove the boat.
“Yeah well, I’ll just eat a pineapple. I figured you wouldn’t have anything that I could eat.” Em explained taking out a sliced pineapple.
“Care to share?” He asked his mouth watering at the sight of the fruit.
“Only because you give me a free ride to the Bahamas.” She joked and fed him some fruit.
“I’ll call Cate when my cell phone gets reception again.” Em shared.
“I take it that’s the girl you are hooking me up with.” He replied.
“Yeah, although I wonder why sometimes.” She honestly commented.
“I’m getting better.” He reassured her.
“Yeah right.” Em replied.

“Cate, you need to get out more. I swear. All you do these days is baby sit and play nintendo.” Amy noticed.
“Nintendo roks!” Cate exclaimed.
“I’ll bet. How was dinner last night with the twins?” Amy asked.
“Fine. We went to Burger King. Apparently they have some Backstreet Promotion going on. So we bought the stuff and the girls made me watch the video. They are pretty good. Their new song It’s True made me melt. I’ve become such a hopeless romantic.” Cate shared.
“Aww, give me a hug babes.” Amy encouraged. Cate hugged her.
“So you want to hear the song?” Cate asked.
“You stole it!” Amy exclaimed surprised.
“No, I recorded it!” Cate defended and pressed play on her tape.
“Wow.” Amy commented when it was done.
“Hey-wait a minute. Doesn’t Em work with a Backstreet Boy?” Amy recalled.
“No, Em works with Nick. He’s a singer.” Cate replied when the realization dawned on her.
“This is something.” Amy thought aloud.
“Yeah.” Cate agreed.
