The next day Emily and I decided we wouldn't call the guys to come over. We were going to play hard to get, or just trying to not look desperate whichever you prefer. We were going to just sit by the pool and relax all day long and get a nice tan. Well, actually that's what Em decided. I was extremely reluctant considering I wanted to see AJ again and I don't tan, I just sit there and burn. Damn fair skin. But of course Em got her way, which wasn't all that bad. About halfway through our day--which was really only a little after noontime because we got up early--things really started to get interesting.
Emily sighed and turned over in her lounge chair to tan her back. "I love the summer."
"Me too," I agreed. I spun myself around quickly in my inner tube in the pool. I folded my arms on the edge of the tube and rested my head on them, kicking my feet under the water to push myself to the other side of the pool.
"I love the sun too," Emily said contentedly.
"Not me," I said.
"You're only saying that because you burn," Emily laughed.
"So?" I remarked.
"The sun is my best friend!" Emily joked. "Don't go making fun of it!"
I pretended to be hurt. "Emily! I'm crushed! I can't believe you're leaving me for the sun!"
Emily laughed, "You're so strange."
"Yeah, but so are you and you love it," I pointed out.
"True."
"I bet I know what else you love," I said with a grin.
"Oh really?" Emily asked. "What?"
"Brian!"
"Yeah right!" Emily responded quickly.
"You can't fool me Em!" I said with a smile. "I see the way you look at him. You want him sooo bad!"
"Shut up!" Emily said, a little embarrassed.
"Oh Brian! Oh baby yes!" I mimicked.
"Eww! You're so gross!" Emily said.
"Yeah, you want him."
Emily sat up and threw a pool towel my way. It just missed hitting me in the head, lucky for me I went under water through the hole in the inner tube. I resurfaced, pointing my finger at Emily and laughing childishly. She stuck her tongue out at me in the same childish manner.
"Very mature!" I said, clapping my hands.
Emily flipped me off and returned to her sunbathing.
I ignored her and watched as the towel sunk to the bottom of the pool.
"I'm not getting that!" I yelled.
"Me neither," Emily said.
"I wasn't the one who threw it in," I said, still being immature.
"I wasn't the one who was being a meanie!" Emily said, sitting up in her lounge chair.
I leaned back in my tube and began kicking the water with my feet. The water splashed everywhere and got Emily soaked.
She sat up from her seat, upset yet slightly amused. "You are so dead missy!" She threatened. She stood up and was about to jump in the water after me when we faintly heard someone talking and laughter coming from the house.
"Hello ladies!" AJ yelled from across the yard as he walked through the sliding doors in back of the house. Brian was following him. They were both carrying pool towels and were in their bathing suits. They walked over to us and sat at a deck table near Emily's chair.
"Hey guys," Emily said, wiping the water off her face.
Brian was the first to notice that Emily was wet and a little mad looking.
"What happened to you?" He asked, laughing slightly.
I giggled, "We had a little water fight."
"Anyway, what are you two doing here?" Emily asked, changing the subject.
Brian shrugged his shoulders, "Just thought we'd stop by and see what you two were up to."
"Not too much," Emily said.
AJ walked over to the pool, preparing to jump off the diving board. He suddenly stopped, staring intently at the water. "What's that?" he asked, pointing to something at the bottom of the pool. I
swam over, still in my giant inner tube and looked down. "Mickey Mouse," I giggled.
AJ looked over at Brian, totally confused.
Emily stood up and walked over to the pool. "That's Jackee's pool towel. It has Mickey Mouse on it."
I smiled childishly.
Brian also walked over, "How'd it get in there?" "Emily threw at me," I said, pouting.
Emily laughed, "Yeah after you started talking about how I like--" Emily quickly shut her mouth.
AJ grinned. "Like what?"
"Yeah Em what do you like?" Brian asked.
Emily looked over at me for help. "Scratch and sniff stickers!" I quickly made up.
The guys looked at each other strangely.
Emily rolled her eyes at me and I tried not to laugh.
"Yeah," Emily agreed. "She thinks it's stupid I collect them," she lied.
I could hardly keep myself from laughing by this point because of the strange looks on the guys' faces so I went under water and resurfaced at the other end of the massive pool and sat down on the steps.
Emily was still glaring at me, wondering where I came up with such a dumb excuse. At the same time she was smiling though, trying to contain her laughter also.
"Watch out Em!" I yelled, noticing that Brian was about to push her in the water. I was too late though. Brian pushed Emily in and jumped in after her, followed by AJ who came and sat with me at the other side of the pool. Emily and Brian stayed on their side of the pool for a while whilst AJ and I were at the other side talking. After awhile the butler came out and said that Brian had a phone call inside. AJ followed Brian in so he could get drinks for all of us.
Em swam from the deep end over to me and sat next to me on the steps.
"Scratch and sniff stickers?" She asked, laughing.
"What did you want me to say?..the truth?" I asked, shrugging my shoulders.
"Of course not! But you could have made up a better excuse," Emily pointed out.
"My brain can't work like that on such short notice," I joked.
Emily laughed, "Yeah, well thanks for trying."
"Next time don't open your big mouth!" I said.
The guys walked back outside and over towards us. "Bad news guys," AJ said.
Brian nodded his head in agreement. "That was Kevin, we have some stuff to do. So we'll call you guys later or something?"
Emily nodded her head 'yes.' "That's fine."
"Great," AJ said, smiling at me. "See you guys later."
"Bye," Em and I said in unison as the guys grabbed their stuff and left.
"They're lying," I said, once they were gone.
"Yup and it was so obvious too," Emily said.
"What do you think they're really up to?" I asked.
Em shrugged, "No clue"

Brian got in the car and drove off, AJ in the seat next to him. "Do you think they knew we were lying?" Brian asked.
"No way man," AJ insisted.
"You sure?"
"Positive," AJ said, unsure himself. "How the hell did Leighanne get the number to their place anyway?"
"Nick told her," Brian sighed.
"What's her problem anyway? We were just hanging out with them," AJ said, looking out the window.
"Sure, we were just hanging out with them now but what would have happened if we stayed longer? Like say until tonight?" Brian asked.
AJ thought about it for a minute and then nodded his head. He knew that if they had stayed their late into the night they would probably have gotten into more trouble than they already were with their girlfriends. It was wrong, all of it but why did it feel so right then?
