As previously announced, Jewel and her mother and manager, Lenedra Carroll, have created Soul City Café as a multifaceted program designed to encourage and expose emerging talent. A longtime dream of Jewel and Lenedra, soulcitycafe.com is a new online home for not only the Jewel fan community, but for anyone who is passionate about supporting groundbreaking art and ideas that shape the world. The first opportunity to do just that comes in the form of Soul City Café ArtBeat, a live showcase of developing artists that were handpicked by Jewel and Lenedra. These artists will open eight of Jewel's This Way Tour shows. The artists featured at the eight special Soul City Café ArtBeat venues span genres, from solo acoustic to folk pop to hard rock to slam poets and spoken word artists. Jewel says, “I listen to all different kinds of music, and I think my fans do as well. My mother and I are committed to supporting new artists, and we felt it was equally important that we not limit ourselves to a certain style of music. I know when I first went out on the road just as a girl alone with her guitar, I often found myself opening for a hard rock act.
