Makoto is the main character, and dosen't know why Jinnai is going after him. He really thought that Jinnai was his friend. Makoto is kind hearted and always wants to help. He can think up plans and inventions in a snap. He also does not like feeling useless, or unproductive.

Mr.Fujisawa is Makoto's history teacher,and he takes his job very seriously. He was working late at the school when he was taken to El Hazard, and he was also a bit drunk to boot. Drinking, smoking, and extreme mountain climbing are some of his interests. He is in the show most of the time as a guider, protector, and an additional source of comic relief.

Jinnai is your typical everyday, run of the mill psychopathic, power hungry, domineering high school student counsel president. He uses below the belt tactics to TRY to win at various things. He has the ability to talk to the bugrom.

Diva is the Queen of the bugrom. They are the sworn enemies of the kingdom of Roshtaria (The Alliance). The two kingdoms are seperated by the great river of God. The bugrom have been battling Roshtaria for quite awhile, but never had too much success. Evil in character, she depends on Jinnai to win her battles for her with much success.

Galus is the leader of the Shadow Tribe. The shadow people have the ability to deceive the members of El Hazard. The only person who was able to see through their illusions was Nanami. Galus is not just a side villain, he is deceiteful and bent on revenge for his people. His reason for revenge stems from the l^st war when they were pulled from their dimension by the Eye of God. Ever since that happened the Shadow Tribe have been treated as outcasts.
