The Newsboys started in 1988, when the band members were very different. Now a days, the line up is Peter Furler who is the lead vocalist and a little drums here and there; Phil Joel who sings and plays bass; Jeff Frankenstein who is on keys and sings background; Duncan Phillips on drums and percussion; and Jody Davis who vocalizes and plays lead and rhythm guitars. These five make up one of the most exciting and different bands in Christian music.

The Newsboys have always been different. First off, two of them are Australian. This being Peter and Duncan. Phil is from New Zealand. They've always made the most elaborate stages; be it gigantic microphones hanging from the roof, inflatable venues, flying saucers, or spinning drum sets, they definetly make their shows exciting. Even if you don't particularly like their music.

Their new cd may be the biggest surprise yet. Their fans have come to expect almost anything from the Newsboys, but disco ? "Love, Liberty, Disco" is a very new experience. Surely, no one was expecting a disco album. However, always surprising, the Newsboys managed to pull one together. The album is not completely disco, although it does boast two disco songs. The rest of the record is primarily rock and what you'd normally expect from the Newsboys.

The Newsboys are as busy at home as on the road. On October 15, Phil Joel and his wife, Heather, witnessed the birth of their first child, Phynley Elizabeth. She wieghed in at 5 lbs, 7 oz. Jody Davis and his wife, Ericka, are also expecting a baby girl on March 5, 2001. And, Mr. Jeff Frankenstein was married to Jennifer Good, better known as Jeni, on December 16, 2000.
