A Dream Come True

musical notes
Director Bette Carrothers' dream of an Interfaith Choir became a reality in the spring of 1966. The goal was to give church choir members in the six New Baltimore churches an opportunity to sing a wide variety of music from classical and modern works A meeting of the Church Choir directors occured in March and rehearsals began in September. The first concert was held Dec 11, 1966 at 6:30 p.m. in the Anchor Bay Junior High School gym on Washington Street in New Baltimore, Michigan. There were 39 choir members. Accompanists were Mrs. Barbara Balfour and Mrs. Martin Pape.
The choir continued to present two concerts a year in the spring and Christmas until the fall 1983 season. The Sunday December 10, 1967 concert begain the Interfaith Choir's many years of performing at beautiful St. Mary's Queen of Creation Church on Main Street in New Baltimore. St. Mary's pastor, the Rev. Father Albert S. Zinger was a visionary who saw the value of the ecumenical movement that was taking place in the religious world at that time and he happily shared the parish church with the choir.
Choir members wore the robes of his/her church thereby displaying even further the beauty of interfaith through color.
The choir disbanded in 1983 until January, 1996.
