    "North Carolina Funkateer For Life"

Yo! BTW Who is this Melissa woman? She's pretty funky....

Just a short note to say thanks for the web site and please drop me any and every newsletter on the funk that you have.

We've been waiting for so long (how did that Larry Graham riff get in here?) Let me say it better... We've been around for such a while, it's hard to funk and not have style. I'm really, really glad that 1Nation has arrived. As I tell my partner Hoody all the time, "Funk is not a state of mind. It's a way of life." I live it. I breathe it. I love it.

    Keep it comin!....

    Gerald Jackson

BTW Somebody mentioned the Bootsy concert in Charlotte during the 70's when the windows blew out. I was there in front of the stage. Damndest thing I ever saw. We thought it was part of the act too!

Thanks so much for the kind words. To answer the question as to who I am, I have been a serious funkateer for about 10 years now. I love all funky music, not just P-Funk, but coming from a background where I listened to soul, funk, r&b, disco, jazz, punk rock, and classic New Orleans sounds, you can see why P-Funk is dear to my ear (and heart).

I host a rare groove program on WWOZ FM (it's called Soul Power) in New Orleans, and it there that I held my infamous annual 7 hour P-Funk Marathons. I organized George Clinton's memorabilia dedication at the local Hard Rock Cafe as well as an autograph signing at Tower Records. I've also produced and hosted a live broadcast for the P-Funk All-Stars on WWOZ. All this before age 22!

I take pride in the fact that any past/present member of any P-Funk group can feel free to contact me & use my site as a service to help them get the word out to their fans. Hey, someone's gotta do it!

Oh, yeah. I've also been known to do an interesting "Atomic Dog" dance, hence a nickname once given to me by Pedro Bell, "Melissa the Molester!" If you've ever seen me in action, consider yourself lucky because I don't think I'll be doing those anymore! :-D But you never know when the spirit hits ya!

Here are some more letters that are dear to my heart. Thanks for these and all the kind words sent to me. They help me to keep going and wanting to improve on the page. I don't know how long I will continue, but I am very appreciative of all the nice e-mails that I get.

    "Thanks for the Funk"

    Dear Melissa,

just a short one to express our appreciation for the work you're doing. Thanks to your mission to spread the funk around the world through the web, we have been able to visit concerts of Bernie and the Woo Warriors in Amsterdam, George Clinton and the P-Funk All Star in Amsterdam as well as in Utrecht, Bootsy in Cologne and most recently Maceo Parker with his great band in Tilburg.

So my girl friend and I are waiting impatiently for the next occasion. We fancied about starting the new millennium at the mothership, but I guess it will be impossible, though the P is millennium proof!

keep up the good work, cause in funk we trust

    Hi, Melissa!

I really enjoy your funked out web site. I look forward to getting info on the funk mob whenever you send it. I've been a listener for 25 years now...through the strong and weak times, and your site gives me the same exitement a new funk mob album gave me when I was much younger. Keep up the good work. You're the bomb......!!

    WASADADA!

    Funkophile Fawns over Freakalene

Just a note of appreciation for the OneNation page. The love that goes into your site is obvious. It's truly one of the greatest resources the net has ever produced. And since the MotherPage is the other I guess that says something about the digital power of the Funk!

And not to sound like a stalker or anything, but if that photo of "Baby Freakalene" with the Parlet/Brides women was you....well...you've got a friend anytime you're in NYC...
