Could you introduce yourself, and explain your role in the band?,
Clint Severs: I sing and play bass.
C: I thought up the name Aborted Youth
Jessica Michael: I play guitar
J: We both do program the drum machines
J: I do promotions and the Web site
Cool,How long has Aborted Youth been together?
C: We started in 1995.
C: We were like a trio
C: Our drummer was my little brother
J: I barely knew how to play guitar then
C: We were getting serious, but my little brother said, if you think this is going somewhere you can forget about it
C: Then we just went through a series of drummers...
J: So we got a drum machine to remove the weak link
cool,So whats new with the band?
J: We're taking some time off from playing gigs right now, but we're continuing to write new songs
J: Our last show was rather disappointing
Could describe Aborted Youth's sound?
C: We call our sound death punk
C: But everything is so labelistic now, that every one tells us something different
Death punk, i like the sound of that
J: Yeah, it's pretty much fitting for us
Could you tell me a little about you influences?
C: We're an extreme band because we've always liked the extreme bands
C: Slayer, Misfits, Black Flag, Cannibal Corpse, Sex Pistols, NIN...
J: I pretty much like the same groups, plus L7, Nirvana, Ministry
What inspires your music?
C: Going through each day with the world up my ass
J: The bullshit that goes along with day-to-day life and people's fucked up attitudes
J: and our anti-social behaviors
J: For Clint, I would say a intoxicated haze with much anger
How would you describe your live show
C: I would say high energy because we play fast
C: We prefer the audience not to sit
J: Though I like when they drop their jaws in utter horror about the music they're hearing
do you have a favorite show that youve played?
C: We've played a lot of shows, some good, a lot bad..
C: It's hard to narrow it down because even with the bad shows, there's always some good aspects
C: because we like doing this. It's something we've always wanted to do. We try to make every show a good one, but sometimes it doesn't always work out that way
Do you have a favorite venue that you like to play at?
J: Definitely not Electric Banana
C: Any place that will have us and pay
Have you ever had a really embarresing moment on stage?
J: my guitar has broken; cords came unplugged; empty room
How do people usually react to the aborted fetus on the cover of your cd?
J & C: That's disgusting
J: Have you ever thought about using a different photo?
has it ever stopped someone from buying it?
C: Yes, definitely
J: Barnes & Noble requested an alternative cover
J: But mostly, if you're into our music, you can stomach the aborted fetus
yeah, personally i think its pretty cool
J: We do, too
C: With the next one, we have to think of something that will top that
What bands or artists have you been listening to recently?
C: Venom, Motorhead, new Marilyn Manson, Billy Joel, John Lennon
J: new Radiohead, Liz Phair, Atari Teenage Riot
Is there any bands you would suggest to people reading this?
C: Napster's great
C: Besides ours? I would say Slayer, Sabbath, Misfits ...
J: Definitely Aborted Youth ... Ministry...
C: Eye Hate God
J: Listen to everything
J: Broaden your musical horizons
What are you goals and plans for the future of Aborted Youth?
C: Bigger, better, faster
C: Onward and upward
J: Global domination, the end of civilization as we know it
J: To totally piss everyone off
We at the pittsburgh underground have sort of a horror image. what is your favorite horror movie and why?
C: there's a lot of good ones, hmm
C: Texas Chainsaw Massacre has some great moments... Night of the Living Dead, cheesy but classic
J: I have fond memories of Poltergeist...
C: The master from Salem's Lot always used to scare me
J: I've read more horror books, than I've seen horror movies
C: There was this movie, I can't remember its name, with cannibalistic mutant babies...
J: And who doesn't like the Blob
actually ive never seen the blob
