interview with Steve Shansky guitarist of Shattered Soul

Could you introduce yourself, and explain your role in the band?

My name is Steve Shansky and im the Guitarist for Shattered Soul

How long has Shattered Soul been together?

Steve: We have been togeher for 3yrs and counting!

Is there a meaning behind the name Shattered Soul?

Steve: Shattered Soul came from our Singer Tom Reilly, all of our souls have been shattered by people putting us down , so we Vent our Anger and Frustration through our music

What's new with Shattered Soul?

Steve: We are in the process of playing 5 shows in January all over the ohio/pennsylvania area, check our site www.shatteredsoul.net and click shows for more info , there is also a metal fest at CLub Laga in Pittsburgh at the end of jan/late feb, so keep ur eyes peeled for it! We are also making our 3rd cd and let me tell Everyone that each song comes from our hearts to our True Metal fans, They are the Heaviest fucking songs, we have 11 songs on the way and expect it out April/May 2001!

How would you describe Shattered Soul's sound?

Steve: Our sound is very orginal, we dont follow trends, we love what we do and that is METAL! If everyone wants a good description, imagine Pantera meets Slayer with a Fear Factory twist. A lot of people think that our singer Tom is Phil Anselmos twin in real life, its so fuuny, he doesnt do it unitentially, its just his voice.

Who are your main influencess?

Steve: My main influences ranges from Tetament,Pantera,Slayer,Overkill and many more.

What inspires the music of shattered soul?

Steve: What inspires us about our music, is our fans wanting real music out there and that makes us write the most pissed off thrash/death/black metal u can hear!

What is a shattered soul live show like?

Steve: Our live show is what we are all about, we put the most devastating stage show, come see us and wittness the mayhem! We feed off the crowd and its ready to throw down!

How does the crowd usually react?

Steve: The Crowd response is killer, they know we make these songs for them and dont get me wrong for us as well, but we all write songs thinking hmm what will our fans do at this one part of our song? We Write Heavy shit!! We love our fans when they mosh, it rules.

Have you ever had an embarassing moment on stage?

Steve: HAHA, the most embarrassing moment is when our other guitarist DJ McCraken was walking on stage to set his stack of amplifiers up and he tripped and fell face first, BOOM, it was so hilarious.

Do you have a favorite venue/city to play at?

Steve: We donta have a favorite Club or venue to play, we will play anywhere, we dont care if 2 or 200 people shows up its the same show with us, we just simply love PLAYING METAL MUSIC.

Do you have a favorite show that you've played?

Steve: Our favorite show that we played was last summer, we opened up for the band Soilent Green at Naybinghis in youngstown ohio, killer show!

Tell me about your studio releases , where were they recorded at?

Steve: Our studio relases was produced by the GOD Bill Dodd at Mudhut Studios, hes a genious, He will be our producer forever, when we make it he is coming along.

What bands or artists have you been listening to recently?

Steve: Some bands I have recently listen to is the new Morbid Angel,Overkill,Cradle of Filth,Opeth,Darkane, i usually love dark heavy music. I hate fake Rap/metal bands out there just to be cool, fuck them.Listen to you heart and that should lead you to your dreams in life.

What is your favorite genre of metal?

Steve: I dont have a Favorite genre of metal but i love Thrash, Death,Black Metal, Hard hitting music.

What is your opinion on modern day metal?

Steve: Oh thank god you brought this question up, Modern Metal, hmmm i cant stand it, I do respect Korn but all the followers should try to back the fuck off, to many of them, Im sorry but limp bizkit is fake!!!!! I met them once and they are bastards, dont trust them!! Now on the other hand Pantera is huge right now but they play for the fans like what we do. They are true in what they do, they breathe HEAVY METAL!!!

What are your future goals and plans for Shattered Soul?

Steve: Our future goals , Playing everywhere possible and getting as many fans that we can, we have played in front of Record Labels before and the music buisness is very sly and tricky, my advice to young bands starting, get your music through the internet, magazines, radio stations. OUR GOAL IS TO MAKE IT!! It just takes time, it will hapen if you follow your heart and believe in yourself.
