Hi my name is Richard James, I give lessons on drums and tuned percussion.
Lessons compromise of rudiments, various rhythms i.e., Rock, Latin, Reggae, Orchestral, Swing, Afro Cuban and many other styles. Reading of music, Control, and Technique are taught in lessons. Tuned percussion is also taught up to grade 8 standard.
I was born in 1956 in Eastbourne, Sussex, England. I started having lessons in 1967 aged 11 with local percussion teacher, I received lessons on tuned percussion, Latin percussion and kit. I joined the Royal Artillery in 1971 to further my musical education, I played all over Europe and Great Britain.
I left in 1983 and started teaching in various schools around Sailsbury and Bath ( Wilts ). I also taught privately and played in various club bands, Orchestras and Brass Bands.
In 1989 I moved to Scotland and began teaching privately in Cumbria and South West Scotland. I then acquired a studio in Dumfries and started teaching at Omega Music in Brampton Carlisle, where I am still teaching from.
In 1998 I started working for Dumfries and Galloway as well as continuing with private teaching, I also started playing with various bands within the area.
Apart from teaching I organize trips to drum workshops and advise on anything from repair work on equipment to where has the best deals on kits etc.....
