Weird Patch Of The Month (December 1997)
5. Linear/Exponential Modulation
In this patch , the upper sine waveform (VCO1) frequency modulates another sine waveform (VCO2). Then, the output of VCO 2 is patched to the carrier input of a Multiplier. Note that VCO1 is fed back into itself in its exponential input.
The lower sine waveform (VCO3) frequency modulates another sine waveform (VCO4). Then, the output of VCO 4 is patched to the modulating signal input of the Multiplier . Again, note that VCO2 is fed back into itself in its exponential input.
The output of the Multiplier is then patched to a VCF : the Bandpass output is sent to the audio input of VCA1, while the Low Pass output is sent to the audio input of VCA2.
A Keyboard CV controls the frequencies of all audio VCO's, while the Gate and Trigger signals are sent to two separate Envelope Generators having both a very long attack and release. The output of the Envelope generators are then patched to the control inputs of VCA1 and VCA2.
Finally, a LFO sine waveform, having a frequency of 1Hz, is used to control the L/R panning (VCA3 /Left) and VCA4 /Right): Note that the LFO signal controlling VCA4 is inverted (-1).
Obviously, the FM and Exponential attenuators (index of modulations) play a major role in the overall texture of the fed back sounds. Try different settings until you arrive at the texture you want.
