FIVE BLIND BOYS FROM ALABAMA
FIVE BLIND BOYS FROM ALABAMA
Spirit Of The Century
(Real World/EMI)
Since meeting at Talledega Institute for the Blind in 1939, the Blind Boys of Alabama have thrilled audiences worldwide with their potent, impassioned renditions of gospel songs.

Celebrating their eighth decade of performance, SPIRIT OF THE CENTURY honors their traditional roots but strikes bold new paths as well, including songs by Tom Waits and Ben Harper - and an astonishing version of Amazing Grace set to the tune of House of the Rising Sun.

Roots, blues and world fans alike will be compelled by this album's fresh, diverse repertoire, not to mention the stellar past world of "The Spirit Band" - Lindley's legendary Madagascar recordings; Danny Thompson's marvelous work with Songhai & Ketama (and not forgetting his role, with Michael Jerome, in Richard Thompson's band); and Hammond's and Musselwhite's years of authoritative blues work, which certainly need no introduction.

Produced by John Chelew (whose credits include John Hiatt's brilliant Bring the Family).
