NINETY MILE BEACH
NINETY MILE BEACH
Ninety Mile Beach
(Ninety Mile Beach)
Just like Nairobi Trio isn't from Nairobi and it isn't a trio, Ninety Mile Beach are not a holiday resort, and they are certainly not from there. They are all very competent Auckland based musicians with many years' of experience among them collectively. Their music is hard hitting pop/rock with powerful melodic-lyrical content. Add to this the powerful vocals of Marty Clark and you have quite a formidable unit. Also interesting to note is the playing balance between lead guitarist Grant Willis and acoustic guitarist Pete Schollum. Ninety Mile Beach opens with 'She Takes Me High' that makes for accessible 'middle of the road' radio platter, and finishes with the hard-edged 'Emma' that brings to mind the rockier ballads of the Seventies. This makes for such a helluva nice change from that boy-girl pop that is so prevalent on wimpy radio today.
