THE ALIBIS Not Guilty www.alibisjumpswing.co.nz Ten-track, good-time jumping swing selection by a local six-piece who sensibly avoid the over-familiar tunes in this 50s-style of jazz-pop (mercifully no Louis Jordan overkill) and keep the music tight’n’tidy in the sax section of Chris Nelson and Mike Croft. Wayne Baird plays an appropriately slippery guitar, Phil Oxenham walks the bass adeptly and the sharing of vocal duties between them and drummer Rick Cotter prevents it from falling into some sameness. Doubtless they also deliver this appealing blend of finger-poppin’, horn-driven r’n’b pop well at the pubs, wine and food festivals and jazz festivals they play.
