FIONA APPLE Tidal (Sony) Fiona's most distinctive feature is her voice that she uses to full effect with bittersweet sensitivity. Also take time to listen to the incredible piano dextriosity and tonal depth of this amazing woman. She is also extremely talented with lyrics, that lean towards the sombre side; and it is her music that compliments this by creating a moody ambience. 'Shadow Boxer' was the first single from Tidal, and right from the opening lyrics "Once my lover, now my friend" she has you cornered. 'Slow Like Honey' is gentle and melodramatic. 'The Child Is Gone' reflects on her anguish and confusion from which you can draw your own conclusions; [Fiona was raped when she was 12 years old]. 'Carrion' with its deathly theme showcases a balance between revenge and remorse. It is 'Sullen Girl' that best describes Fiona Apple. Tidal is an album that draws you in with every exposure.
