BAITERCELL
Prototype
(Kog Transmissions)
This is where New Zealand electronica started rockin’ with this six-track EP.You know you’re in for a bit of a nut off with opening track ‘Prototype’. From the build-up of its stompin'’ groove at the start to the swingin'’ distorted riffs, it slices straight through the dance floor.
This EP was Auckland's pioneering electronic label Kog Transmission's first move into multi-media territory. Although there was only two BaiterCell tracks, the other being the equally as stomping but a bit more bleepy ‘Otoscope’, the other four tracks were remixed by Chumbwa, Emission Physician, Trigger X and Rotor.
Do with it what you will was the only boundary these four were given when remixing. And they did. Chumbwa did technoed-up dub while at the end, Rotor does a six-minute stint of scaremongering, complete with bashing drum'n'bass, searing noise and an eerie intro and outro. Prototype had it all, from dub to drum'n'bass, to noisy beats and more.
