APRIL BARROWS
My Dream Is You
(Kokopelli Records)
April performs mostly originals in a style that can be best described as being inspired by the thirties' vintage (i.e. Jerome Kern to Cole Porter). April's vocals are smoky-smooth, with exceptional support from her nonet. The title track sets the mood for the album with its gentle patter. 'Someone Else's Arms' attacks the double standard of "if you can cheat then why can't I?" April makes Ellington's 'I'm Beginning To See The Light' authentic, and yet unique in her own way. This is cabaret jazz at it's finest.
