JEFF BECK
Who Else!
(Sony)
Truly one of the most revolutionary guitarist's to come out of the 60's British blues boom. Beck left The Trident's (1964-65) and replaced Eric Clapton, who departed The Yardbirds to join John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. The Yardbirds also produced another legendary guitarist. ie Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame. Beck even featured the young Rod Stewart in one of his early rock bands. Forming The Jeff Beck Group he moved further into heavier rock, then rhythm & blues, and then jazz fusion. The seed/influences for his recent bands can be heard on Neil Young's dabbling with electronic-rock ie Trans. With Who Else! Terry Bozio has left and Jan Hammer has come on board, and also drumming legend Manu Katche. Beck has influenced countless budding guitarists, ie Satriani and Vai, and a recent guitarist worthy of a mention here is Javier Vargas (the Vargas Blues Band perform a blend of blues, rock, flamenco & soul) from Spain who sites Beck as his major influence. Who Else? follows in the footsteps of Guitar Shop especially 'THX 138', 'What Mama Said' and 'Hip Notica'. Who Else! has it all, from the heavy 'Blast From The East', to the bluesy 'Brush With The Blues'(this one's live) and the wonderful Irish melody 'Declan'.
