BOBBY BLAND
BOBBY BLAND
Dreamer
(BGO)
I've heard just about every Bobby Bland album ever to be released. Bobby is so consistant, and even through fashion and political changes Bobby has always delivered the goods. Bobby is a premier singer, whose style is soul-blues with jazzy influences.

How can you take a sad song and make it attractive? Give it to Bobby. 'Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City' is a tale of lost love, and how Bobby now feels. When times were good and the money was there so was she, then things went bad and she disappeared, hence 'I Wouldn't Treat A Dog (The Way You Treated Me). Bobby's band is sooo hot and man can they play sweet and low. This isn't the blues that takes you down, no this is just story songs with soul and 'Lovin' On Borrowed Time' is another tale of woe, where his lover mistreates him and Bobby feels so betrayed. "You Gonna Need Somebody..." is a line from 'End Of The Road' that we see in so many relationships. 'I Ain't Gonna Be The First To Cry' exudes the pride of love. Damn this is sooo good. The title track 'Dreamer' is a beautiful song that has been with me for years; it is so sad, intimate and sexy. The rip off song 'Yolanda' features some hot funky horns. 'Twenty-Four Hour Blues'; most of us have known heartache, and Bobby tells us of the night and day where he can't sleep or get anything done. Honest lyrics and honest emotion from one who knows. "It will be a 'Cold Day In Hell' before I give my heart again" is the way the lyrics go and it is so soulful. This last song 'Who's Foolin' Who' is a song I feel Renee Geyer should record. it is truly R&B meets soul. It has a great hook.

This is my favourite Bland album, and I'm sure some of you have had the vinyl and have worn out the grooves several times over. Great thing about CD's is unless you scatch them they tend to last. My other favourite Bland albums are Two Steps From The Blues and His California Album. Both are regarded as classics in all major review encyclopedias. Best time to listen to Dreamer is about 3am with a great bourbon in one hand, and with your lover. Works for me.
