DEANNA BOGART Out To Get You (Blind Pig) Looking at the front cover of the compact disc you could be easily mistaken into believing that this woman is Pocahontas as a sax player. Whereas Deanna is a fantastic jump blues musician who can play sax, sing, compose and play one hell of a piano! Opening with 'Over Thirty' Deanna and guitarist Professor Mac Walter, with tenor saxophonist Ron Holloway (Deanna's sax tutor) literally fly through chords in stride unison. Without letting up on the pace they next jump straight into 'Thrash Boogie'. Keeping up this pounding pace are the rhythm section of Timm Biery (drums) and Jeff Thomas (bass). 'Three Long Days' gives you time for a breather, it is a gentle, melancholy soul tune. With 'All Night Long' you're straight back into boogie-woogie, and Deanna introduces 'All Night Long' with what I believe is the 'Warsaw Concerto'. Amazing! 'Cold Outside' and 'Lay Me Down Slowly' immeadiately remind me of Rita Coolidge. 'Morning Glory' is strong in it's country influences and features Deanna on saxophone. 'Good Times' sounds reminiscent of Kris Kristofferson. 'Ethel's Place' is an instrumental showcase for everyone and features the late Danny Gatton on guitar. 'Move Me Baby' is straight up rhythm & blues. Like 'Commander Cody' and 'Asleep At The Wheel', Deanna knows how to belt out rock'n'roll and included here is 'Beat Me Daddy' that is a brilliant example. Rounding off Out To Get You is the jazzy 'Honeybee'. This is an amazing album, and an album to die for! Get to your local music outlet and demand to hear it! Gazz The Great Unknown (Shanachie) This is Deanna's forth album and The Great Unknown fits into same formula of her previous three albums; ie boogie-blues meets jazz-soul. Deanna is just as proficient on tenor saxophone as well as piano, and a great vocalist to boot. Her originals 'Love Funk' and 'Adam Bomb Boogie' are brilliant highlights, with plenty of that boogie-woogie rhythm keeping the listener ever attentive.
