BOSSA NOSTRA
BOSSA NOSTRA
Solaria
(IRMA)
Solaria opens with bassist Stefano Carrara's funky 'Faces' that serves as a showcase for all the band members, and lays down mosaic template for the entire album. Solaria features the powerful vocals of Vicki Anderson on James Brown's 'The Message From Soul Sisters' and Scott-Heron's 'Home Is Where The Hatred Is'; and these are the only vocal tracks. 'The Crickets Sing For Anamaria' features pianist Emanuele Bigi whose influences must include Sergio Mendes and Monty Alexander. 'Scream' is romantically Latin, and beautifully melodic, which makes the title rather ironic. 'Blooming' displays the delightful interplay between Massimo Mussini on acoustic guitar and Luca Roccatagliati on flute. 'Groupin' brings saxophonist Luigi Storchi and bassist Stefano Carrara to the fore. Bossa Nostra maybe an Italian jazz-quintet that you may not have ever heard of; but once you have you'll want to hear them again and again.
