ZACHARY BREAUX
ZACHARY BREAUX
Uptown Groove
(Zebra)
Apart from Zachary's debut Groovin' (Live At Ronnie Scotts), and his Laidback album, Zachary also had a lengthy session career in pop, hip-hop and many jazz stylings. Having worked with Ronnie Jordan, Guru and extensively with Roy Ayers, and also having backed the likes of Stanley Turrentine and Dee Dee Bridgewater, Zachary certainly left his mark as one of the jazz-worlds finest guitarists.

Sadly Uptown Groove was Zachary's last album, as Zachary drowned in 1997 whilst trying to save a drowning woman. From Uptown Groove I especially enjoy Zachary's covering 'Never Can Say Goodbye', Isaac Hayes' 'Cafe Reggio', and Miles Davis' 'All Blues', and Breaux's own '2am On The East Coast' that is delightfully acoustic. It is sad and ironic that the last track on Uptown Groove, is titled 'I Love This Life'. This remarkable track is actually an interview with fellow guitarist Ted Dunbar.

Zachary's contempory approach was both smooth and funky, and encompassed the legendary stylings of Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell and George Benson. If you love jazz guitar, then Zachary's Groovin' (Live At Ronnie Scotts) and Uptown Groove are too good to ignore.
