Picture Perfect Morning
(Geffen/BMG)
Edie is the sometime member of the band called the New Bohemians, and you may remember her having a hit with them, which was 'Philosophy'. She is also married to the legendary Paul Simon.

Edie really pulled one out of the hat with Picture Perfect Morning; and she engaged some pretty special guests i.e. Barry White, Dr John, Michael Brecker Art & Cyril Neville et al. 'Tomorrow Comes' is a song about a departing lover, to which Edie is quite philisophical about. 'Green' is about the neighbours having everything; that has Edie green with envy. 'When The Lights Come Down' is a song about gambling, the wants and the downside; and this features Paul and Edie Simon on acoustic guitars. 'Good Times' is pure sweet-soul music, and this is the single that featured the great Barry White. 'Another Woman's Dream' is about some guy's preocupation with things he's not prepared to go out and get. 'Stay Awhile' is Southern country, soul and blues. This features Jerry Douglas on dobro, Larry Campbell on pedal steel, with Dr John on piano. 'Hard Times' is about an unwelcomed visit back home, only to be told about the hard times and get lost. 'Olivia' is a tale of romance, an adventure and her favourite. Edie dreams of getting away to be herself 'In The Bath'. The title track is possibly an intimate glimpse at Mr & Mrs Simon. 'Lost In The Moment' is about life's tradgedies, and glimpses through different lives. It is great to hear songs that ponder on reflection.

Edie's Picture Perfect Morning is so much like Paul Simon's There Goes Rhymin' Simon, in that it is made up of picture songs that tell wonderful tales in differing music styles. A masterpiece! Edie intentionally put this album together not for the hits, but as an album people would want to listen to again and again over the years. Picture Perfect Morning came out in 1994 and I am still playing it almost every week.
