BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE
BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE
Four Wheel Drive
(Mercury/Universal)
The rocking truck driving music of the Canadian Plains. Yes this was a band that delivered bottom end with punch, with soaring twin guitar crescendos flying over the top. Comprising of lead guitarists Randy Bachman and Blair Thornton, with C.F. Turner on bass and Rob Bachman on drums. Randy was one of the founding members of The Guess Who, who wrote the smash hits 'American Woman' (Guess Who) and 'You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet' (BTO).

I can imagine the clug-clug-clug of a Corvette Stingray picking up speed to the title track 'Four Wheel Drive', that has power and speed written all over it. 'Hey You' has a wheatfield soul feel about it, that echoes the Guess Who, and is so Randy Bachman. 'Lowland Fling' is quite reminiscent of an early barnstorming Joe Walsh. 'She's Keeping Time' is my favourite track from 4WD, and the boys really get to unwind on this; I imagine something big that is rolling and hard to stop.

Apart from the album Four Wheel Drive, my favourite tracks are 'Blue Collar' (Bachman-Turner Overdrive), 'Welcome Home' and 'Let It Ride' (BTO II), 'Free Wheelin' (Duane Allamn tribute) and 'Blue Moanin' (Not Fragile), 'Lookin' Out For #1' (this is so much like 'Blue Collar' part two)(Head On), 'Don't Get Yourself In Trouble' live version from (Japan Tour), 'Just For You', 'Easy Groove' and 'My Wheels Won't Turn' from (Freeways). Most of these great tracks are available on the double CD The Anthology.
