CAFE DEL MAR IBIZA (ONE)
Various Artists
(React/Festival)
This is the debut compilation from one of the greatest dj's on the planet; Jose Padilla. Padilla appears on these compilations just like Alfred Hitchcock in his movies; you'll always find his appearance somewhere. This is the first of the only six compilations that Jose did for Cafe Ibiza.

Cafe Del Mar Ibiza (One) opens with Padilla's own 'Aqua'. This music is quite timeless and is on a par with Kruder & Dorfmeister. One of England's great and up & coming producer/composer's is William Orbit; and his 'Story Of Light' is a welcome part of this album. One of the first groups to give us atmospheric, textured melodies was Sabres Of Paradise. Their 'Smokebelch II' is as eerie as a Martian landscape. Penguin Cafe Orchestra is Simon Jeffes lovechild, and Jeffes is just like Phillip Glass in is usage of delightful, repeatative, minimalist melodies.

Sun Electric perform 'Sundance' that draws upon recuring hypnotic melodies that grow in ever climbing circles. Leftfield's 'Fanfare Of Life' begins with Cirque Du Soliel similarities and developes into the beats we associate with him today. Sisterlove give us 'The Hypnotist' that contains a rather encouraging dialogue. Fans of sci-fi will adore Ver Vlads 'Crazy Ivan'. A Man Called Adam is one of the best of the latter groups to embrace and layer both world and pop music, and here they provide 'Estelle'. Obiman give us 'On The Rocks' that is like a soundtrack to a mystical movie. Tabula Rasa provide the transition from ambience to dance in the Club Ibiza with 'Sunset At The Cafe Del Mar'.
