CAFE DEL MAR IBIZA CUATRO (FOUR)
Various Artists
(Manifesto/Festival)
Jose really knows how to set a mood, and his 'Que Bonito' lays down the foundation for Cafe Del mar Ibiza Cuatro. UK Folk singer John Martin sings 'Sunshines Better' and this has been remixed by Talvin Singh. 'Leo Led' is a dash of drum'n'bass meets world music, and is perfromed by Indo-Aminata. Paco Fernandez is often a contributor to B-Tribe, and here he provides the very Spanish 'Grillos'. A child's inclusion on this song makes it magical. And continuing this flavour is Voices Of Kwahn A.D. with 'Return Journey'. Les Jumeaux perform 'Miracle Road' that has sensuous similarities to the style of Smoke City. One of the most infectious tracks on Cafe Del mar Ibiza Cuatro is Wasis Diop's 'No Sant', which is a lost souls story with a percusive soundscape. Levitation perform their futuristic 'Out Of Time' that fits nicely on this package. One of my favourite late night tracks is Afterlife's '5th & Avenida'. I'm not sure but the voice on this track sounds like a sample of Billie Holiday singing "He's My Man". The next track is Karen Ramirez singing 'Troubled Girl' in Spanish. (Once I heard this song I had to have Karen's album "Distant Dreams"; released through Universal.) The jazziest track on this album is Stan Getz's 'Street Tattoo' that is a very sexy mood setter!
