CAFE DEL MAR IBIZA SEIS (SIX)
Various Artists
This is sadly the last Cafe Del Mar album to be compiled by Jose Padilla; and what better way to open a farewell than with Talvin Singh's 'Traveller', remixed here by Kid Loco. Another favourite is Afterlife's 'Dub In Ya Mind' with the vocals of Rachel Lloyd. [Check out Afterlife's own album Simplicity on the Hed Kandi label]. Another Euro hit is A New Funky Generation's 'The Messanger', and this is soul and dance. The very gentle 'Beautiful' is performed by Mandalay featuring Nicola Hitchcock. Erik Satie gets a bit of a shake up with Endorphin producing a beaty mix of 'Satie'. 'Homelands' is by Nitin Sawhney and features the vocals of Nina Miranda and Rizwan Muazam. This is almost a Middle Eastern dance trip. Rae & Christian introduce a little soul with 'A Distant Invitation' featuring Siron on vocals. Scandinavian jazz pianist Bugge Wesseltoft performs his 'Existance'. Paco Fernandez and Cathy Battistessa as part of Levitation perform the beautiful 'On Home' that showcases Cathy's moving vocals. If you remember the 'Robinson Crusoe Theme' and you loved it, then Marc Collin's 'Les Kid Nappeurs Main Theme' will surely romanticize you. 'III Street Blues' is performed by Moonrock and is reminiscent of Brad Fidell and Massive Attack. Jose chose a truly amazing outro for this very lingering album and that is Dusty Springfield singing 'The Look Of Love'. Two departures in one year...Jose and Dusty. We know Dusty can't come back, but I would be truly ecstatic if Jose were to come back on the music scene.
