Boogie With Canned Heat
(See For Miles)
Boogie With Canned Heat (1968) was Canned Heat's second album, and has often been lauded as being a landmark blues album. The band members back then were Bob 'The Bear' Hite Jr (lead vocals & harmonica), Al 'Blind Owl' Wilson (lead vocals, harmonica and guitar), Henry Vestine (lead guitar)(ex-Zappa's Mothers Of Invention), Larry Taylor (bass guitar)(ex-Jerry Lee Lewis), and Adolfo 'Fito' De La Parra (drums).

My favourite tracks are 'On The Road Again' and 'An Owl Song'; both performed by Al Wilson, and 'Evil Woman' performed by Bob. 'Evil Woman' isn't very politically correct by today's standards, but it is one helluva rock track with Vestine and Taylor putting in the chords. Vestine's own 'Marie Laveau' is a riveting instrumental. Taylor's 'Fried Hookey Boogie' became the Heat's signature tune, and is based closely on John Lee Hooker's 'Endless Boogie'. Other tracks included are 'My Crime', 'World In A Jug', 'Turpentine Moan', 'Whiskey Headed Woman No 2', and Bob' anti-drug song 'Amphetamine Annie'.

Their next album Living The Blues (a double album on one CD) also became a classic, and included the gems 'My Mistake', a live version of 'Refried Hookey Boogie', 'Walking By Myself' and 'Goin' Up The Country'. The latter also featured at the 1969 Woodstock festival.
