EVA CASSIDY
EVA CASSIDY
Songbird
(Blix Street)
Eva was blessed with an awesome voice and ability to style and arrange songs in such a way that they became her own. Eva sadly died of cancer in 1996. What she left behind is a legacy of songs. Eva recorded 3 albums while alive and Songbird contains some of those finest moments.

The title song was written by Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac fame. I now prefer Eva's version of Sting's 'Fields Of Gold' and I love her rendition of 'Over The Rainbow'(Wizard Of Oz). Her ability to transcend styles is astounding, she could take the gospel flavours of 'Wayfaring Stranger', 'People Get Ready' and 'Wade In The Water' and make them so personal. The latter is one of my favourites with it's jazzy riff. I get emotional when I listen to Eva sing 'Time Is The Healer', it is almost a requiem.

Do take time to visit your local music establishment and listen to Eva's albums as everyone of them is a true gem. I chose Songbird to represent her catelogue, whereas my personal favourite is Eva By Heart I have attached two websites that you can visit if wish to learn more about Eva Cassidy.
