DEEP PURPLE
DEEP PURPLE
Made In Japan
(EMI)
Deep Purple in 1972 were Ian Gillan (vocals/harmonica), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Jon Lord (keyboards), Roger Glover (bass), and Ian Paice (drums/percussion), and by this stage the albums Fireball and Machine Head had clocked up massive sales World-wide.

What followed was Made In Japan that is documented as one of the greatest moments in rock history, plus one of it's greatest sellers. 'Highway Star' & 'Speed King' are enough to exite the speed-hoons, and fantastic tracks as well. One of the fastest guitar solos ever documented is Ritchie Blackmore's solo in 'Child In Time'. It still gets my adrelalin going; and it is hard to imagine how many chords Ritchie was soaring through. The live version of 'The Mule' (orginally studio version was from Fireball) features a long and dynamic drum solo from Ian Paice. 'Lazy' takes you through jazz, country into rock. An awesome track! When I first heard 'Space Truckin', I misheard the words. I won't elaborate. I used to say truck wrong when I was a kid, and embaress my mother frequently. By the way 'Space Truckin' is about tripping on drugs. One of the encores on this limited edition two CD set is the classic rocker 'Lucille', that was made legendary by Little Richard. Deep Purple's take is a whole lot more drivier, and the bass hits you right between the aural glands. 'Their most popular stage song is 'Smoke On The Water' (original studio version was from Machine Head), and this version absolutely cooks! Gillan, Blackmore, Lord, Glover & Paice give the crowd what they came for; an aural-orgasm. The Budokan crowd begged for more & more.

If you are rock-music lover, do check out Deep Purple's In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, Live In Japan & the awesome Live At The Olympia featuring super-guitarist Steve Morse.
