DUKE ELLINGTON
DUKE ELLINGTON
Duke Ellington At Newport 1956
(Columbia/Sony)
A Voice Of America tape of this famous 1956 concert has been discovered and digitally remastered. The result is this amazing recording of both the original and fake studio cuts. This is a 1999 reissue featuring 20 tracks, with announcements in-between, resulting in 40 tracks, a two hour performance on two stereo cd's. Featured tracks includes the favourites i.e. 'Black & Tan Fantasy', 'Take The A Train', 'Sophisticated Lady', 'I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good)', 'Mood Indigo' and 'Diminuendo In Blue & Crescendo In Blue', and this track features tenor saxophonist Paul Gonsalves, who blows up an absolute storm. You won't believe your ears, the sound is so good.
