JOHN FARNHAM 33 & 1/3 (BMG) 33 1/3 is Farnham performing the songs of the legends Isaac Hayes, Willie Mitchell, The Temptations et al. Having never been a John Farnham fan; I was quite taken by surprise at how easily I enjoyed 33 1/3. Willie Mitchell's 'That Driving Beat' and 'Everything Is Gonna Be All Right' definitely have that Memphis soul groove, and Isaac Hayes 'You Don't Know Like I Know' and 'I Thank You' are full of that Memphis Stax sound. The choice of any performer performing these classics is to either interpret, or reinvent them, thus making them their own. Farnham isn't too much removed from some of the originals, whereas Jimmy Barnes unfortunately screams them. Although I prefer the originals of these classics, Farnham does do them justice, and he does have some exceptionally good backing; and because of this 33 1/3 has an almost authentic Memphis sound.Gazz Click on album image to see larger album cover
